These aren’t my pics, but this is pretty amazing stuff – a real Thai flavour to quintessential of English sports fare. These are making the internet rounds in Thailand and it is good.

For those not following this:

1) Popular Thai prime minister ousted in coup (not really for corruption, but because of his arrogance and his lock on power and populist policies that had displaced the Bangkok-based bureaucracy).

2) Ousted prime minister uses part of his billions of dollars from selling his telecom company to buy Manchester City premier league club. Until convicted, the former prime minister can’t really be called an undesirable owner. He will be convicted in Thailand, but so what?

3) Manchester City holds Thai-style party and these pics are making the rounds.

For the record, I bought a whole lot of Man City gear online to hand out to my colleagues who still hate, hate, hate the former prime minister. So, I'm having a lot of fun in a non-sportsman like way.

I am hoping a youtube clip of Thraskin singing Blue Moon at this event will appear. The crowd would of had to gone nuts for that.

Frankly, I'm amazed that Man City fans would so readily accept a foreign owner. But if it takes singing "Blue Moon", I'm sure that Thaksin will do it.

Youtube is pretty worthless, though, as it is banned in Thailand. And, I still think that Thaksin is playing for the "home side".

It is a good bet for him. He stays in the news, outside of politics.

On the other hand, Man City gets a lot of cash, a good coach and a built-in fan base of about 20 million supporters.

A lot of the Clubs have foreign owners now, and the success of Chelski probably helps spur acceptance. An America owns most of Man U, as well. As long as he springs for a new keeper by Saturday that is.

But do you see Russian flags flying over Chelski? Russian food free for supporters. Russian dancing girls?

It just seems strange for Thai flag waving and Thai food pavilion and beautiful Thai singers and dancers to be there and all in the heart of historic Manchester.

They play the Russian National Anthem while he waves to the cheering crowd before every game.

I thought there weren't any women in Russia...none of them look like women!

That's weird!

I can't imagine anything like that in the US.

The premier league is either way, way ahead of its time or will eventually collapse under the increasinging cost of its over-paid international players.

Asia is a very good sports base, though. In the shopping mall next to my office builidng, there is a Arsenal shop. I'm pretty sure that there will be Man City sports shops everywhere pretty soon.

Are you friggin' kidding? Hey, I've been to the Thai seaside resort of Pattaya and I've seen Russian babes. They're way, way out of my league.

Hey man, if this is your cup of tea, then go for it. After all, I married an older woman, so what do I know?
