This house that is for sale is about the same size as mine. I really like the way they have painted the kitchen, dining room and living room. What do you think? My bathroom is already red walls with white paint and cabinets.

I'm not really big on the color red in my decor, but I like how this kitchen is done. The word "quaint" comes to mind.

I'm sorry but that's ugly. Looks like Valentimes day.

If I do it, I may paint more a crimson shade. My living room is right next to the kitchen and my furniture would match that better. Of course, I could always reupholster.

I'm basically looking for ways to spruce up my house without paying a fortune.

What I may do instead of painting the cabinets is get new knobs and handles, paint the walls a neutral color (not ceiling white) and paint one wall in the dining room the crimson color.

What I'm starting to dislike about this house is all of the stark white woodwork. But, if I give it some TLC I think it will look awesome.

I'll have to check out the Stolen Kiss, JK. I think your kitchen turned out beautifully.

No.

You don't want a kitchen that looks like someone threw up candy cane all over the walls.

Go for the red accent wall.

The nice thing about kitchens is that you aren't dealing with big expanses of wall, so it's a good place to use a bold wall color such as red, because it won't be quite so dominant there. I don't think I would ever paint cabinetry like that. In your kitchen, I would maybe paint the cabinets a warmer shade of white, change the hardware, maybe redo the countertops (something neutral there) paint the walls a crimson-red, and add some red accents around the kitchen, and use a second accent color in smaller amounts. A bit of green would be one to consider, it's red's complementary color.

HGTV has some cool decorating tools on their site you can use to get some ideas. This is a link to to color chooser tool that I've used:

Thanks for the help. I liked that when I first saw it, but I think if I had to live with it I would tire of it quickly. My bathroom really is that bright but it works in there because it isn't the first thing you see when you walk in the door. :)

Do not paint your kitchen red or crimson or any other blood color. It will look like *ss and you'll never be able to sell it. Put a picture of your kitchen up and I'll photoshop it into a Design Star!

Just like I did this one. Still not done with it yet.;)
