I just came across this article. We are the Kings together with some big time school. The pokes, they are just knights, could have been peasants imo.

but the main factor isn't history or currently how much they're winning or losing, one of the main factors is recognizability...

Teams, other than kings or barons, that knock off a king during the regular season, thus benefitting all the other teams, should be classified as Robin Hoods.

The other knights should be offended the pukes are in their group considering they have been to 1 prestigious bowl game (Cotton) since World War II (although their new lockers will have odor absorbing wood). Other than that, everything looks accurate.

... and Sugar, Fiesta, and a couple of Gators.

Sugar? What in 1945? Please see Homey's Good Morning thread.

Fiesta and Gator weren't even New Year's Day Bowls then. Modern equivalent to Alamo Bowl.

You said since WWII, and the '46 Sugar was played after WWII.

The Gator was about #5 in bowl prestige in '84, behind the Rose, Cotton, Sugar, and Orange.

Apparently that's equivalent to the Alamo.

Man, clicked on your link and thought "Geez, I don't want to take the time to read OSU's whole media guide section on their bowl history." I then realized that it's about a tenth the size of that section in OU's guide, so really a pretty quick read.

osu is a knight in the "Don Quixote" category. :)

Fiest Bowl was the 5th New Year's Day bowl game then. The Gator Bowl was on par, at best, with the Peach, Bluebonnett and Aloha Bowls back then.

Check who played and where they finished in the rankings:

Check out the year previous...

1984 Season (http://www.infoplease.com/ipsa/A0747028.html)

Matchup of top-10 teams with a $1.7 million payout was top-5.

Regardless, it wasn't equivalent to the current Alamo.

How did Illinois become a knight? They stink, and have for a long time. Sure they poke their heads out of the ground every now and then, but sheesh.

Anyway, I think the Illini will actually have a winning season this year. It's been a while.

We sneak in a Big 10 title every 10 years or so...but yeah I'm not sure how the Orange and Blue get knight status. Some good history, but nothing too spectacular. Then again, if OSU are knights, so is Illinois. Not sure about a winning season, I'd love it, but .500 is alot more realistic with the somewhat tough schedule. And it has been a while, 2001 was the last winning season. Got pounded in the Sugar Bowl by LSU. Juice, Regis Benn, and Rashard Mendenhall should be fun to watch for the next few years.
