Les Miles go figure! The kid is still under investigation!!

BATON ROUGE, La. - Ryan Perrilloux, the sophomore quarterback who was once a prized recruit but who's made most of his headlines by getting in trouble with the law, was due to report for practice at LSU Friday after head coach Les Miles reinstated him.

During an informal news conference with reporters at 3 p.m. Friday, two hours after players were due at the West Campus Apartments, Miles had no answer to a question about how LSU players received Perrilloux as a player in good standing again.

"We've not yet reported," Miles said five hours before a team meeting he said would mark that milestone. "It's hard for me to represent welcoming him back. It's tough for me to say."
Miles said Perrilloux would be "no longer serving a suspension as of 8 o'clock" Friday night, when Miles planned to hold his first team meeting of preseason camp.

"We expect him in camp," Miles said. "We expect him to perform and understand the premise with which he reports. I think he'll be fine."

The only conversation Miles said he had Friday with Perrilloux was about the reserve quarterback's "approach [to] make sure he's doing the right things. That's all."

Perrilloux was considered the top high school quarterback prospect in the country when then-LSU coach Nick Saban persuaded him to join the Tigers. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder signal caller took a redshirt year in 2005 and played sparingly as a third-string quarterback in 2006, appearing for mop-up duty in five games and completing only one pass in four attempts for 10 yards.

Meanwhile, Perrilloux has been listed by federal authorities as a person of interest in a counterfeiting probe and was arrested for trying to illegally enter a riverboat casino using his older brother's ID.

Perrilloux attended classes at LSU over the summer and performed community service in an effort to get back in good standing.

Miles said there were steps Perrilloux still had to take to return to full participation and have his suspension lifted, but would not elaborate.

"With the privilege of being on our team comes responsibility," Miles said. "It's been pointed out, and I think he's ready to comply."

Perrilloux's reinstatement provides Miles with more flexibility to redshirt Jarrett Lee, a quarterback recruit out of Texas.

Senior Matt Flynn is expected to start this season. Flynn led LSU to a lopsided Peach Bowl victory over Miami following the 2005 season, but returned to a backup role in 2006 with JaMarcus Russell coming back healthy.

Also competing for the second quarterback job is walk-on Jimmy Welker, a 6-3, 229-pound senior.

The NCAA has more important things to do, like determine if an athlete's ham sandwich has more cheese than a regular student's. They can't be involved in actual crime. Not their job.

If they actually put any text to their rules then yes it would be a violation I guess... Still gambling is big thing with them and using a fake I.D..... this is with Texas looks like they caught em on his birthday!!! HA!!
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas freshman defensive tackle Andre Jones was arrested and booked into jail on an aggravated robbery charge Friday, his 18th birthday.

Jones was charged in connection with a robbery July 27 at an Austin apartment complex. He was taken into custody by University of Texas police officers without incident, according to a statement issued by the Austin Police Department.

Bond was set at $40,000 on the charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, police said. An attorney for Jones could not immediately be reached for comment.

Texas coach Mack Brown issued a statement saying that team officials have spoken with Jones and his family and have decided to suspend him indefinitely, meaning he won't be involved in any team functions pending the completion of legal proceedings.

"We are disappointed to hear about the recent allegations against Dre Jones," Brown said. "They are very serious charges. We will cooperate with authorities through the legal process and support Dre any way we can."

Former Texas safety Robert Joseph, who was suspended last month, has also been arrested in the case.

The two are accused in a holdup in which cash, video game equipment and cell phones were reported to be stolen, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Witnesses said in the affidavit that they saw Joseph with a handgun during the incident and Jones acting as if he were reaching for a gun.

Jones' mother, Carmen Jones, said her son is innocent.

"I can assure you that my son didn't do anything like this,'' Carmen Jones told the El Paso Times in a report for Saturday editions. "We lived in El Paso three years, and he committed himself to school, to get his grades up and committed himself to getting that scholarship. He didn't go out partying and doing stuff like that. ... For him to go out there after he worked so hard, to turn around and do something like this is not him.''

Jones, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound graduate of El Paso Andress, was a top high school recruit.

The Longhorns begin their fall practices Monday.

Jones and Joseph are among four Texas football players who have faced criminal charges over the summer. Two other players were arrested on driving while intoxicated charges, and Joseph previously was charged with burglarizing a vehicle.

Brown said he is disappointed in the players' legal troubles. He said they do not reflect "the high standard of class, character and integrity we have established at Texas for many years.''

"It's a shame that these recent events have generated a great deal of negative attention, because I do think that overall, this is as good of a group of kids that I've ever coached," Brown said. "I think that will show over time.''

You do realize that "person of interest" has at best an ambiguous meaning stretching from involved in to possibly having knowledge of. The arrest for trying to get into a casino using his brother's id?...School/team matter, not the NCAA.

Except that I know that if a person has knowledge of some counterfeiting scheme and although not directly involved they will at the very least get charged with conspiracy. As for the arrest it may not be an NCAA thing but don't you think Miles could have done better than to suspend during the off season?

You're way too touchy. These are two separate things.

The jobs Bomar and Quinn had were overseen by the athletic department. The athletic department didn't do its job in monitoring those jobs.

Ryan Perrilloux's legal problems have nothing to do with LSU. He wasn't working in a jobs program set up by and monitored by the athletic department. Bomar and Quinn were.

It's different. Let it go. Our athletic department fell asleep at the cheese. What is happening to that kid is in no way tied to the LSU athletic department.

First, I have a grip. Second, while this is not an NCAA issue I do believe that if it was an OU player the media would be on it like white on rice. The suspension during the off season is not even a slap on the wrist it makes no sense. As for the NCAA they do have rules for how players are supposed to act on and off the field and they can regulate that. I think that if your a thug and break the law your scholly should be pulled but hey what do I know.

Look...which way would you rather have it:
(a) OU is a school worthy of news and attention, good or bad, or
(b) OU as some run of the mill Baylor/Texas Tech/North Texas State

Things are going to be more amplified at OU, Texas, Michigan, USC, etc. It just goes with the territory of being a big time athletic school.

LSU isn't like OU or Texas or Alabama, etc. Yes, they beat us by 7 points a couple of years ago, but so what. They're still not, and will never be, as newsworthy, good or bad, as we or Texas or Notre Dame, etc. are.

So, when you're an OU fan, you just accept that when things happen here, they'll get blown out of proportion, and when they happen at LSU...who cares. That's just the way it is.
