Whether the ships were intact after the crash or not probably doesn't mean anything.

The ship can survive intact, but the aliens inside still had an impact after falling several thousands of feet.

(... and even if there were a bunch of survivors, all of their tech was powered by the mother ships. At that point, we had all of the technology advantage, right?)

True. I was sure glad that the aliens ran MacOS so that virus would run. If they'd been running Windows, we'd have been screwed.

If they'd have been running Windows, there'd have been a mass BSOD during the initial attack, and we'd have mopped the floor with them.
