Don't know if you saw this. He really doesn't say a lot, particularly about Mike Reed.. http://tulsaworld.com/sports/college/article.aspx?articleID=070729_2_B5_spanc26254&breadcrumb=OU

I don't even know what the hell that means. Are they down on Reed?

What do you anticipate from linebacker Mike Reed?

We're counting on Mike to be a guy to fill a role and help our defense in some capacity.

Thats gotta be the worst interview answer Ive ever seen

Stoops and BV are INCREDIBLY high on Auston English at this point. Anybody have inside info? Is he a game changer type or simply a coach's favorite because he is, well, coachable?

Dear Coach Venables:

Perhaps Reggie wouldn't still be "young at that position" (as he enters his junior year!) if you would just leave him at one position or the other.

Love,
TDTW

P.S. - Tell BJW.

As for Reed's development and ability to play LB for OU, we have to remember that LB is the linchpin of the D, and is probably the most difficult to play. There is more to playing LB than just making big hits, especially at OU. It's an incredibly cerebral position. It's a stretch to ask a juco guy to come in and immediately make an impact when he can't even line up in the correct spot, let alone know what his responsibilities are.

We have to also wonder what kind of summer did Reed have?

There's no questioning his athletic ability, but he's apparently going to need some more time to soak up the intricacies of the position and its relation to the rest of the D.

Mike Reed just ran around and hit people in JC. At OU, there is actually a method to the madness and from what I understand it is very complex. Each defensive player has to be able to line up right and hit a certain gap depending on what defensive play is called. Mike is just now learning how to line up right 90% of the time....let alone hit the correct gap. BV said Reed is in the top 5 LB's. But Lofton is the starter at MLB as of now. Hopefully, Reed can figure this all out by the time Miami comes to town so we have more depth atleast. Lofton can play any LB position.
