My wife has a pontiac montana. The pontiac people said the condenser for her air conditioner is gone, and will cost $1200. Can it be done cheaper, and correctly?

that seems kinda spensive. Is it solid gold?

I think half the time when dealing with the dealer, you are getting hosed. I would call around to some local mechanics and see if you can get a better dealio.

If you don't feel like driving out to Wister, Auto Air of Oklahoma (http://www.autoairofoklahoma.com/) near Reno & May is where I would have work done on the old R-12 systems.

Just a point of reference, I had some work done on a 1990 model there back when I still lived in OKC and other cars prior to that. I haven't had to do anything to my 134A systems yet.

The R-12 systems are OUT , Any unit I work on is R-134A or it gets converted to R-134a

This was right before R-12 went off the market, a friend had a car converted over to something called Freeze-12 after the R-12 ban before the 134A conversions were sorted out.

That is much cheaper than 134A conversions were back then, I think that is about what she paid for the F-12 conversion.
