If you are, like me, old enough to remember these great players you gotta read this! I was 22 that year and loved the Cowboys!

Those were the good ol' days. I guess a life of beatings eventually takes it's toll on a person.

I am Shocked.....You mean to tell me that grown men running full speed and knocking the crap out of each other is going to cause their bodies to ache many years/decades later. I agree that the NFL needs to pay a little more attention but give me a break. Everyone who plays the game knows it takes years off your life and it can change or end your life at any moment. THAT is why we love it so much.

You had better stop that. I think that's illegal in 37 states. ;)

Great article. Thanks for posting that. Now - where did Mel Renfro play college football?

Ah, yes...quotes from former Sooners great Ralph Neely in that article.

Ralph Neely (born September 12, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas) is a former American Football offensive tackle who played 13 seasons and 172 games for the Dallas Cowboys from 1965 to 1977.

Neely played college football at the University of Oklahoma under coaches Bud Wilkinson and Gomer Jones and was an All-American his senior year. He was one of three Sooner stars who missed the 1965 Gator Bowl game against Florida State. Supposedly, Neely, fullback Jim Grisham and halfback Lance Rentzel all signed on with professional agents before the game and were ruled ineligible for the contest, which Florida State won 36-19 on the strength of four touchdown catches by Fred Biletnikoff. Neely was drafted in the second round of the 1965 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts, who soon after traded his rights to the Cowboys. Neely was a two-time Pro Bowler in 1967 and 1969 and was an All-Pro four times.

He was selected to the NFL 1960s All-Decade Team.
