Why are you drinking a beer at 3PM you ask? Well, today I hit golf balls for the first time. While the distance is a little lacking the ball striking was excellent. First time I've hit golf balls in over six months!

Also, today is my son's very first birthday, the 14 year anniversary of my father's death, and we are getting ready to go to a photographer and have a family portrait made.

All in all ...a lot on my mind! On second thought ...I think I'll have another Newcastle.

I remember when I was a soph in high school, the sophs were scrimaging the frosh. I was playing linebacker and the frosh ran a pitchout. I beat my block and hit the running back. I drove through him standing him up. I was just waiting for the wistle to blow when all I get smacked in the ribs by my teammate playing SS. He speared me right in the ribs. I went down and stayed down. I played the rest of the season with rib pads, my coach told me it was just a bruise. 6 months later I went to the doctor because the [ain was still there. He said that my xray showed a calcium deposit were the rib had been broken. So much for rub some dirt on it! Why trust a high school coach? What a tool.

Good news! My older son's knee injury turned out to be an MCL - probably a strain. MRI scheduled (gotta CYA) to verify it. But with intensive Physical Therapy, he should be able to play at Nationals in 2 weeks. This will probably be his last year of college hockey (though they may give him a medical hardship and let him play one more year). And the team is going in ranked first in the country.
This kid is so lucky - his left hand was slashed in the season opener. He ignored it for 2 months (what is it with you guys?) before going in to have it checked out. Tore some tendons. The doctor agreed to try casting him for 4 weeks - because of the delay in seeking treatment, he wasn't sure it would work. The cast was on during the 6 weeks witho0ut games. And it worked, no surgery needed.
There is a physical therapy clinic near the new StarCenter that has equipment designed to work on the hockey players. And it is on our insurance!

I had to run away high
So I wouldn't come home low
Just when things went right
It doesn't mean they were always wrong
Just take this song and you'll never feel
Left all alone

Take me to your heart
Feel me in your bones
Just one more night
And I'm comin' off this
Long & winding road

I'm on my way
Well I'm on my way
Home sweet home
Tonight tonight
I'm on my way
I'm on my way
Home sweet homeYou know that I seem
To make romantic dreams
Up in lights, fallin' off
The silver screen

My heart's like an open book
For the whole world to read
Sometimes nothing-keeps me together
At the seams

I'm on my way
Well I'm on my way
Home sweet home
Tonight tonight
I'm on my way
Just set me free
Home sweet home!

Through all of this music I was listening to the OTHER band that was in this catagory, Judas Priest. I still listen to that stuff and get all fired up. How I never put together that Rob Halford was gay... I have NO gaydar. The guy was dressed up just like a Village People! I still couldn't tell. Gen. Santa Ana is the grandfather of chewing gum!

http://www.uh.edu/engines/epi963.htm
Summary:
In 1869, the exiled Generalissimo was in Staten Island looking for someone to buya bunch of chicle (the sap of the sapodilla tree) for use as a rubber substitute. He met an inventor named Thomas Adams. Adams took a chance and bought a ton of chicle from S.A, but he had no luck making it into a rubber substitute. But Adams's son realized he could make it into a chewable product that might be better than the wax and other stuff that was then popular to chew. So he gave 200 balls of chicle to a druggist, who sold them at two for a penny. They were all gone before noon. The Adams gum dynsaty went on to create Adams Clove Gum, Chiclets, Blackjack, and more. Santa Ana died penniless; Adams died rich.

550 yards of pure fun. If you hit a monster drive you can be on the green in two ...maybe, probably three. Tough birdie, but if you hit perfect shots and the wind is just right ...this hole is scorable.

If your a wuss off the tee ...you in big trouble.

Heh, I parked at a meter because I needed to park closer to my office. I'm heading to Jackson after work, and I wanted to ice down some beer with the ice machine here in the building. So I load the meter, reload the meter successfully once, then I'm sitting here waiting for Tiger Girl to answer the stooopid question and I realize I've let the meter ran out by about 20 minutes. Of course, I run out to the street like an idiot, but too late. The fluorescent orange love note is under the wiper blade waving in the breeze. It was mocking me, I tell ya. So anyway, I drive around the corner and see the one free parking space that I always covet. I park there, but the damage is done. Not much of a story really, but I will accept contributions to pay my ticket. :D

JWTN, well, I do it for family members when they come down. So, you've sorta become like family, with this wonderful and useless thread and all, and I live on a golf course, so what the hell ...I'll pay, but you better like to walk because carts are for pussies!

And .... your buying the Newcastle and Guiness rounds after the golf, so bring your wallet and your get in a drinking mood.

BTW, I went out and practiced yesterday, and while my distance is lacking, I'm very happy with my iron, wedge, and wood play thus far. I did however purchase a new 1-iron hybrid, and it is a "bear" to hit.

I actually made the club myself and it was my first time in building my own club from scratch. Kinda fun too and it gets me away from reality for a few hours as well.

Have a great weekend everyone ...I have to work this weekend at the hospital but at least I'm not on the ICU this weekend.

I might even get a few "garbage" posts in while I'm there.;)

Both. Often at the same time. Depends on how I am playing.

I going to Florida in a couple of weeks to play at a course on Emilia Island. Should be fun.

I need to pick up golf...I've decided to get a marketing degree, and I was talking to a friend of the family that asked me if I knew how to play after I told him what I was getting, I said no. He said I should learn

Since I have already hit so many "significant" post numbers in this thread,
and since the number of stars is unimportant with the emergence of those who have obtained a gazillion stars,
I am only padding here to help one of you reach the goal of being number 1000.
