i gotta say they've really made giving a ticket quick and easy....he swipes my DL in his little machine, enters in my home number and spits it out....i think he was at my window for all of a minute

Man, i've had so many speeding tickets the state put me on probation for a year and told me if I got one more ticket within that year they were going to suspend my license.

Is it really that hard to not speed? Do you have a disorder? It's not like anybody in Texas is getting pulled over for going 2 MPH over the limit.

Every speeding ticket I've had was in Oklahoma, and 90% of those tickets were written in SE OK.

I've never been pulled over for speeding in Texas, but to answer your question....yes I've got a real problem with speeding and it's a borderline disorder.

In Houston you have to speed to keep up. If you dont keep up, you get ran over.

That is twice as true along US-69 between McAlester and Durant.

Those muthafudger cops along there can kiss my ***.

If you've ever been pulled over for speeding in Houston you deserve it. The police there won't even blink if you're going 20 MPH over the limit.

Ain't that the truth. In fact, I just accidentally passed a Constable going 15 over on the Beltway. He didn't even blink. That was about 2 hours ago.

West Beltway = Houston Autobahn

This is so true. Lately since gas is so high I have started driving in the far right lane of 290 and setting my cruise on the actual speed limit, you wouldn't believe the looks and gestures I get.

If I'm really not in a hurry I drop it down to 5 mph under the speed limit. That REALLY ticks em off.

It's not like I'm purposefully trying to hiss people off, I cant help it, the suburban likes to drink gas, and I get much better mpg at 55 than I do at 80

you get optimum high speed travel at 65 mph though.

sooooo true. At night you can put it on 100 and still get passed by people.

i mean how does he define "optimal"?

Scott D

what does that mean?

if you have the digital gauges in your car that can measure your gas usage, mph, and will estimate how many miles you can go on a full tank of gas, you'll see that last number will be higher at the same point in the vehicle consistently travelling nearest to 65 mph compared to vehicles going nearer either 55 or 75 mph from the same starting point. For some reason 65 just seems to be more efficient, which is probably why a lot of states tend to make it the highway speed limit whenever possible.

yermom
7/26/2007, 06:27 PM
ok, so by mpg

but wouldn't that depend a lot on the car?

Doesn't seem like it. I'd figure that on a long distance trip 65 would be just as efficient for your Subaru as it is for a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Just show 'em your cleavage... that should lower your ticket count for sure! :D

I read somewhere that auto manufacturers tune their engines to be most efficient at the predominant highway speed limit (i.e. 65 MPH or so in the US).

that would make sense.

so older cars would do better slower?

my old Jetta('85) didn't feel right until about 75

Feeling right and best gas mileage are totally independent. :)
