My husband got the big version of this one (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0006554515049a&navCount=7&podId=0006554515049&parentId=cat20889&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=search_redir&catalogCode=XH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20889&hasJS=true) recently. He seems to like it.

I've been extra nice to him!! :O

I have had a couple of the bucklite knives. They are inexpensive and pretty sturdy.

less than 50.

i'd look at a Spyderco Endura or Delica depending on the size you want(Endura is kinda big) these should be in your price range if you look online

also some Wal-Marts carry the Spyderco Native for ~$40 which is also really nice

a lot of the delivery drivers i used to interact with in the kitchen biz were knife nuts. a lot of them had fold out scuba style knives....for cutting open boxes and packaging and such. they were pretty bad ***, no nonsense knives. thin and lightweight but well-made....being the key.

I suggest you get a Case brand pocketknife for daily use. They are well made and a great investment.

Kershaw makes a hell of a knife.

So does Gerber. I've been cuttin' seatbelts and clothes with one for five years now on the factory edge and it's still sharp enough to shave with.

But I TRULY recommend one of these.

I'm sure there are a few good recommendations here, and I plan to check them out. But I picked up an Old Timer w/ a 2" blade for less than $10 about 8 or 9 years ago and I haven't found any reason to replace it yet. I keep it razor sharp and use it basically every day for some thing or another.

7/24/2007, 05:29 PM
well, you probably aren't finding another one...

the only traditional knife like that i have is an old Craftsman, i think it's a rebadged Case Stockman. my grandpa left it in the truck i got from him, it's been used hard. i'd probably never carry it, but i'm not getting rid of it

Back in the early 70's when I was a kid, I would buy my Dad a pocket knife for his B-day. Out of about eight of'm, he still has six still in the box. Nothing but cheap Schrades and Bucks, but it will be nice to get them back one day.

I carry this one:

http://www.knifecenter.com/knifecenter/kershaw/images/chivew.jpg

it's a great little one-handed, assisted opening knife. It opens with a torsion bar....so it pops out like a little swtchblade. and it's durable.

I carry this one for work. I like it quite a bit, would probably be better though if I was worth a damn at sharpening it. :O

everyone that owns a knife, should have one of these:

the Lansky knife sharpening system. It can sharpen damn near anything, even razorblades.

get one, you'll thank me.

If you take care of a Case knife it will not decrease in value. I have some older Case knives that originally cost $20-$50 that are now worth over $500.

I am not implying that it's a get rich scheme :) but IMO if you are going to buy a knife, buy one that will still have some value after many years of carrying and use.

I've seen that at the store and have thought about getting it. Right now I have one of these things and it doesn't seem to work very well, I thought it was just me being retarded.

This is the best pocket knife ever:

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/414FX91TT4L.jpg

They're super cheap, available all over the place like Lowe's, Home Deport, Ace, etc., and when the blade goes dull, you turn it around. When that one goes dull, you chunk it and put a new blade. The knife itself is pretty sturdy. It folds and holds great. It's not too heavy. It comes with a bunch of extra blades, and when those are gone you can buy extras by the hundred pack.

And, if you forget it's in your pocket at a concert or something, you take the blade out and chunk it. You don't have to surrender the knife. Don't know if that works at the airport, I have never tried. I doubt it. But most places it has.

I love these knives. I have one in every vehicle, my pocket, my office. They're so handy.

I got them at Lowe's for like $6 in all colors. Except orange.

I have two of them. They do indeed rule, but there are some tasks you need a real knife for.

No, like cutting down trees to build yourself a lean-to shelter when you're stranded out in the wilderness surrounded by a camera crew. ;)

I have several and like them, Costco has them beat. They have a 5 pack of assorted colors for about $18 and I like the blade removal design better.
Black, red, blue, silver, and some color between bronze and gold.
