I don't mind profane but I know some people do. That's why I mentioned Bill Cosby - Himself....that is funny as hell but the only curse word in it is maybe a damn or hell.

If you liked his first CD Feelin' Kinda Patton, you should get 222. It's the full, uncut show they took that album from, and he is drunk as hell during it.

Ding! This is the classic of all mentioned. It is a friggin gold standard by which comedy should be measured.

Carlin's Class Clown was pretty good

Steve Martin - Let's Get Small, Wild and Crazy Guy and Comedy Is Not Pretty are really good.

Steve Hofstetter-"Cure for the Cable Guy" is pretty good.

Daniel Tosh-"True Stories I Made Up" is gold. GOLD JERRY!

You know how to make your life better? Lie. About everything.

"Hey, man, can you pick me up from the airport?

Sure

"Dude, where were you? I waited for three hours!"

Then you're a fool. I would have gotten a cab after 15 minutes. That's what grownups do.

I'm curious if most of the new stuff that is being quoted is from video performance or from an album like the thread stated.

I have trouble picturing many people these days popping in a cd and listening to a good stand up routine. There really used to be something special about it. I remember my folks having parties back in the 70's and putting the Steve Martin LP on and everyone would gather around and listen an laugh their asses off. Real old school sounding.

I also forgot The Smothers Brothers.

Well, I've never seen either Daniel Tosh or Steve Hofstetter on TV, so I'm going to go with both of mine being from albums.

And yeah, I listen to those guys on my iPod pretty regularly. I don't have parties around it, though.

Jerry Clower - "A Coon Huntin' Story" (seriously)

Other comedy albums I grew up listening to:
Bill Cosby - "Revenge"

George Carlin - "A Place For My Stuff"

I also listened to a Flip Wilson album (can't think of the title) but it was fairly explicit and had a disclaimer on it "for adults only." That meant hovering over the record player in case my mom walked into my room.

No. I think that he is not as terrible as the real haters say, but nothing special and how he does double sell outs at Madison Square Garden is beyond me. He is a really good interview though. Anybody who says Larry the Cable Guy needs to be slapped in the mouth.

If you have the stomach, Jim Norton - Monster Rain is a good new one.

David Cross - It's Not Funny might be the funniest album in decades.

And I didn't even know they still made comedy "albums." I thought that went out when Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy started to suck.

This is a repeat:
Comedians who rely on shock and profanity are like 4-year-olds who discover they can make the grown-ups laugh by saying "poo-poo" and "pee-pee".
