i guess it makes sense to put up a crank sculpture of the guy in a somewhat archaic style....then.
a couple Pilsners in. a late afternoon nap are on tap here at KC crib.

The sculpture was prolly erected by the "East" Germans during Soviet occupation. It looks pretty typical of their crap IMHO.

exactly. weird, huh? the same clumsy forms that Speer would design in this blocky, unpleasant, faux "classical style"...without nuance. at least Stalinism was BIG.
this is just ugly.

hah, I was just thinking about the Nazi hall at the World Fair in Paris (designed by ze Speer).
it was mentioned often in my books about Guernica.:)

Unfortunately, my Vaterland, (Niederschlesien) and the rest of Presien, is part of Poland now. It was a sop for Joe Stalin at Potsdam.
Remind me to tell you sometime about the "trail of tears" walked by all the ethnic Germans who had to vamoose from what was declared "Poland" in 1946. And thousands of the old and sick who died along the route.

This thread reminds of the book I am reading right now, Sir Martin Gilbert's excellent WWII narrative. So far I have found that WWII wasn't the best for people with my surname as General Weygand is a derivative of mine thanks to areas in West Germany being passed back and forth at times, and another Wiegand got the exclusive interview with Hitler when French sued for peace. This thread also reminded me I still have some Goose Island in the basement.
