You're in a country full of crazy asian females (CAF - I has redefined it) and none of them can tell you?

Heh, I don't think anyone of the CAF's has been there...

I'd ask the engineer who's from China, but I don't have the patience to try and understand him and they get mad if I gave him tequilla at work so that he's easier to understand...

There is but one place to stay in Shanghai. It is ostensibly the most famous hotel in the world (ask the Chinese). It is called the Peace Hotel.

Also, the founder of the communist party (Sun) lived in a house there. You can go and tour the modest beginnings of communism. When leaving the hotel in the morning don't linger in the intersections when the opposite green light comes on. You will be run down by 1000 bicycles.

Be sure to check out the local outdoor markets. You can literally find fresh ____________(insert any animal or beast you can imagine) for your fine dinner.

More if you're interested.

I was in Shanghai many, many years ago, prior to the modernization that has taken place in the last 15-20 years. As I recall, the place to be then was called the Bund, which is a long walkway that runs along the river with several hotels.

This information probably does you very little good, but it gave me the opportunity to brag that I've been to Shanghai.
