I remember being warned not to play in appliances like refrigerators, but never a microwave.

While that is likely, it would be possible to climb into the microwave, reach out and pull on the door hard and pull your hand back in before it got caught.

Very sad.

Surely one of the friends or siblings coaxed him into it, shutting the door behind him. Cramping yourself into that small of area wouldn't leave much wiggle room to slam the door yourself.
Sad ordeal either way.

They showed the microwave on the Omaha News last night. It was a late 70's model. I think the doors on those are probably heavy enough to latch on their own after he climbed in.

so so sad, I am sure it was hot outside and took no time at all..I can remember hearing stories of that with refrigerators, but never a microwave. That is why you are supposed to take the doors off old refrigerators when you throw them out, I would have never thought about needing to do that with a microwave!

Hard to imagine how a kid could even fit into one of those things; truly one of the most horrible things i have ever heard of
