I feel for ya. A month ago the family made the miserable trip from Oklahoma City, through Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota....and then back.

One of my best friends drove from South Dakota to be at my wedding. I'll love the guy forever, but I'll never figure out how he could do it in one sitting. Yikes!

And that's why I no longer drive from here to Norman every weekend...I'll gladly give that money to ExpressJet.

Last weekend, I drove 9 hours from Cleveland to Nashville and then the next day drove 10 hours from Nashville to Dallas. Fun stuff.

Sacramento to OKC once in a Geo Metro, about 22 hours. I was young and stupid back then though, probably drank 3 gallons of coffee and smoked 3 packs of cigarettes from Flagstaff on in. I'd never do something like that again.

Have any of you goofs ever heard of an invention called a Jet Airplane?

I was really poor at the time. $60 in gas for a 2700 mile round trip drive was way cheaper than flying. Plus I love road trips.

We had a family vacation cut short because I was diagnosed with some rare childhood syndrome and was told by hospital near Charlottesville, VA we had to go home to see my doctor.

So we loaded up the van and drove 21 hours home to Dallas.

I hate flying anymore, I would much rather drive if I have the time. We flew to Boston last year, a Austin-Boston direct flight on JetBlue for $99 each way. We drove to Denver last year, hauling the motorcycle and stopping for a funeral in Cleveland, OK and drove to Memphis and Indy this year.

22 hours on the road going to the fiesta bowl this last year. but that was driving with 5 other guys. good times on the road. and why the hell is the border patrol going from NM to AZ?

yeah, i'd much rather drive if it's feasible

not being able to stop and walk around at all kills me, plus it's generally not as cramped in a car, so this isn't really even needed as often

flying ~4 hours wipes me out way more than driving ~12 hours if it's shared be between 2-3 people

did you guys get stuck in the snow crap on I-40?

we took the long way down to I-20/I-10 to avoid the weather and it took us 15-16

There's nothing more exhilarating than a 9 hour bike ride through the mountains IMO...

I do these marathon drives once or twice a year. For whatever reason that flying is inconvenient or I just want a car with me.

Like at Christmas. I'd rather have the hell beat out of me than cram onto a plane on Christmas Eve.

I am flying this Friday night and I am certain I will regret it.

We drive from Phx to Tulsa and Durant because it's easier than flying with two young kids and renting a car. Our first day is to Amarillo, and the kids start losing it in NM.

When my m-i-l was dying earlier this summer, I drove from Tulsa to near Charleston SC stopping only to pee. That blew. 16 hours.

The thing is, you call an airline about a ticket 24 hours before desired departure and they will bend you over, stick it to you and break it off.

I feel ya. When the May 3rd tornader came through, I was in Columbia, SC. I called different airlines for a flight out of Atlanta and they all wanted over a grand for the ticket. Nothing like driving 15 hours wondering if your house is still standing.

i do fly, but we took the dogs with us, which can be an adventure in itself......they travel pretty well though

i think next time i make that drive, i'm going to rent an SUV and take it for the extra room

Two years ago I drove from San Marcos, CA to Norman in 21 hrs. Reason is, I could not leave my 1992 Nissan Infiniti nor I want to sell it. Car is great, 200k miles on it and still running. 5 days later, I drove to Norman to Atlanta, GA in 16 hrs. I miss Norman.
