I am looking to get a decent road bike. I have been looking at some Treks and Giants, but that is about the only brands I know.

What kind does Biker Fox use?:D

Don't know about BF, but I ride a Specialized Tarmac, and Specialized makes several different models.

You might also look at Scott bikes...

How much are you looking to spend? Keep in mind that if you don't already have all the peripheral gear (helmet, pedals, cleats, shoes, clothing) you are looking at another $300 to $500 or so.

I ride a Bianchi and LOVE IT. (Thanks again Andy!)

Achmed rides a Trek, so I'll never buy one of those.

Most of the local stores push Giant and Cannondale, and sometimes Specialized. I like being different though. Bianchi's rule.

Specialized is advertising a lot during the Tour on VS. Looks pretty impressive, especially the Tarmac

Mine has been ok, but I don't think I would go with a carbon frame if I were to do it over.

I also looked at the Specialized Roubaix (sp?) but the ride felt a little...mushy...for lack of a better word.

yes, it's all in how much you wanna spend as well. The Bianchi I want is about 5K.

why not a carbon frame???

Specialized, huh? I will look into it. I dont mind paying a little money for the quality, but I dont need the bike made out of space shuttle grade composites either.

Clothes? Come on. Those things are tiny. I'd look like 5 lbs. of **** in a 3 lb sack.

trust me, you'll need the padded spandex shorts. that's something you do NOT skimp on. (pardon the pun)

Dont they make a seat that takes it easy on the taint, and allows a little dangle?

I wouldnt' know about that, but I do recommend a really good quality short. your bum will thank you.

why not a carbon frame???

I was used to an aluminum frame with carbon forks. I don't know what I was expecting, but the carbon frame just has a different feel that I haven't totally gotten accustomed to. Most, or even all, of that may be due to the fact that I have not put the miles on it I had planned...maybe I haven't given it a fair chance yet. I'm really still getting accustomed to the fit...I did not have aero brs put on this one because it is a true road bike, not a tri bike. But I may put them on at some point, because I feel all stretched out across the handle bars. And yes, I have had it properly fitted by someone who knows what they are doing

The other thing is that carbon is a little more unforgiving than aluminum. A scratch can cause long-term problems, and a wreck? Fuggetaboutit.

yeah, that's true. I'll probably end up with only carbon fork and stays when I purchase my next bike.

I was looking in to the Trek Pilot 1.2 or even the 2.1. I have a Trek 4300 mountain bike, and am kinda used to the brand.

Maybe not now since they sponsor terrorism:D

I purchased the Terry Butterfly saddle last season and it's AWESOME.

http://www.teamestrogen.com/images/products/TY-21193-2007_xlg.jpg

"Wider in the rear than typical race saddles for good support of a woman's sit bones; completely cut away through the nose and mid-section, making it flexible and comfortable against soft tissues; lightweight, extremely strong, tubular vanox rails attach to the shell in an integral suspension bridge design that minimizes road shock (a great feature for those with lower back issues). Handmade in Italy."

I'm pretty sure that's the saddle bikerfox uses.
