Got home last night around 3 am. The Wife came home at lunch today to tell me about her new job. We had lunch and I got ready for work and when I went out to leave...my tailgate was gone. I had little time to check with neighbors to see if anyone else got hit or saw anything.

The Wife went around today and we weren't alone.

We've filed a police report.

Just thought I'd mention to any of you who own a pick-up to lock the tailgates and spare tires up when you leave your truck.

Yes...I've had a spare tire jacked before too...

My spare tire cable is dangling too:mad: I'd like to have caught the sonofabitch in the act.

One of the guys at work said that he and a neighbor caught another one of the neighborhood guy stealing spares off trucks that matched his truck. I guess he figured it was easier to steal the wheels and tires instead of just paying to replace his own tires.

There wasn't a killing...but there was some restitution, jail and community service for the guy once it was over...

Did you hear about those four Pokes who were riding in a pick-up bed up in Coffeyville KS when the pick-up got into deep water. All four drowned because the driver had locked the tailgate.

My truck has a factory tailgate and spare tire lock. :D

A lot of them are coming out with them now. Of course I never lock it (the tailgate) since it's a pain. It's like anything else, if a worthless thief wants it, they'll steal it. Locks just keep the super lazy thieves out. Same with wheel locks. If they want your wheels they're going to get them.

Sure does make you mad, though, doesn't it?

it takes about 30 seconds to steal a tailgate. Never had mine stolen but I'm sure it sucks.

It's probably the super lazy that pray on tailgates since they are so easy to steal if it's locked.

The real pro would steal the whole truck more than likely.

I keep mine locked to keep the opportunists away, as StoopTroop said, if a pro wants something they will take the truck somewhere and strip it at their convenience.

A co-workers dad did something to hers, switched the pieces that slide onto the pins so the tailgate just doesn't lift off. She came out one time and her cables were cut but the tailgate was still there.

Sounds like we found the guilty party....tail gate stealing...was this before or after you went after those high school chicks ;)

I'm sorry for that you were the victim of a theft. I suppose you're going to have to pay a deductible. Thank you for the warning. I never once thought about the possibility of that happening. I'll be sure to tell my husband right away.
