View Full Version : I think USC...

...will not be near as good in the future as they used to be. Booty is the remaining student of former USC QB coach and O coordinator, Norm Chow.

Think deep about it. What do you guys think?

I apologize that this thread isn't about us or anyone that we play in the season.

I think SUC will stick around for awhile. Lots of top talent is still feeding into the school and while Pete is there; they will always be around. I wish they would go away, but they will not.

USC will soon become #1 in recognized national titles; they are tied with Bama at 10 and trail Dame by 1. USC is in good shape for years to come.

Oklahoma needs a title bad, really really really bad.

With all the talent they've stockpiled I imagine them being good for years to come.

The only thing that can derail that is if they have lots of guys leaving for the pros early or transferring. Or if the NCAA grows a pair and actually looks into all the shady crap that goes on there.

It's about Pete Carroll, I think. He brought the program back from years of mediocrity. I wish UCLA would give them a run for their money in recruiting, but they don't seem to be able, at the present time.

USC has 4/5 titles that are part of their Heritage Hall magic show.

yeah what Ron said. I thought we had seven. don't we? How does six make you number one? Or are we now going to m*st*rb*te over the AP vs. UPI vs. Bob Geldof poll?
USC is fixed for talent for sometime to come, but I would bet they don't see another title for many years. The intensity and breaks required to get there are extremely hard to put together - witness OU's difficulty repeating at the beginning of this decade.

For the record, you read it here first: I predict the University of Washington upsets USC this year in Seattle. And while I do live here, I do also think the Huskies suck. But I just have a feeling. And I don't like USC.

I really, really hate Pete Caroll. It started when he got the HC job for my Patriots and ran some of the most bogus gameplans ever. Then, well, you know where I am going.

He is a fantastic college coach though. As long as Pete is at USC, they arent going anywhere.

Considering their 33 year old QB Coach was interviewed by the Raiders for a possible NFL job, I think they're allright.

USC could have a better defense this year than any team of the decade, including 2000-20001. Their skill positions are incredible, offensive line reloads, several top notch QBs waiting to take over, etc etc.

You might want to think deeper about this question.

At what point in time does California go ahead and fall off into the ocean?

DISCLAIMER: This post is not meant to offend Californians, but specifically USC fans, players, or others identifying themselves by the university. If it were possible for just that section of Los Angeles to fall into the ocean, I'd be all for that. Thank you. :D

USC just has 1 that was added to the Heritage Hall display (not all USC fans recognize). USC won 3 from what was considered to be major recognized selectors before the AP began: 1928, 1931, 1932. Alabama has 4 and Notre Dame has 3 before the AP began.

1. Notre Dame 11 (24, 29, 30, 43, 46, 47, 49, 66, 73, 77, 88)
2. Alabama 10 (25, 26, 30, 61, 64, 65, 73, 78, 79, 92)
2. Southern Cal 10 (28, 31, 32, 62, 67, 72, 74, 78, 03, 04)
4. Oklahoma 7 (50, 55, 56, 74, 75, 85, 2000)
5. Minnesota 6 (34, 35, 36, 40, 41, 60)

Ohio State, Nebraska, Miami all tied with 5
Michigan's title tally is chaotic.

Alabama lays claim to 1934; went undefeated and can be recognized with 11 total but some outlets say 10.

I agree with the theory that USC is not the offensive juggernaut they were a few years ago. Bush, Jarrett and Lienart are no longer at USC...sure, the new guys are good, but not "start in the NFL your rookie year" great like Leinart and Bush. Last year a couple of plays go the other way and not only do they lose to Oregon State and UCLA--not exactly powerhouse programs last season--but they also lose to Arizona, Arizona State and Washington State. Heck, I might even be missing a few. They started out strong and then fizzled some at times. I don't think Booty is all that great...I wouldn't be shocked if they lost at Nebraska. Yes, great talent on defense, but we will see how that translates on the field. The offense has some holes, especially breaking in new receivers.

If you look at outright championships (and not shared) I believe OU has more than USC. I like to refer to USC as the University of Shared Championships because most of their championships they share with another team (like LSU in 2003).

They have the LBers and we had the secondary.

Even after the LBers are gone, they still have a lot of depth and I hear Galippo is just a beast. They will always be good as this position and for time to come.

Defensive ends got better with everson.

Taylor Mays is the best thing that has happend to the USC secondary since Troy Polamalu. I don't think they have great CBs though.

Defensive tackles...the only one they have is sedrick ellis. They have bad depth problems and butch lewis, their recent recruit is out of shape because of a sickness.

Their website lists 11. 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1918, 1923, 1932, 1933, 1947, 1948, & 1997.

Where did all those titles magically come from? Last I heard it was ND on top w/ 8, OU in second with 7, Bama, USC and Nebbish with 5, the list goes on at 4.

SteelClip49
7/10/2007, 06:47 PM
my list is very correct. National Championship selectors did exist before the AP but they weren't as big as what the AP became; the sole selector. Helms, NCF, CFRA were among the most recognized selectors before the wire service polls took over. BTW, if you take into account every selector that voted for OU in history, they have 23.

How many does Michigan claim?
Answer depends upon who is asked first. If yous ask Ohio State that question, Michigan would end up with somewhere around ten or eleven. I read and believe that no one has topped ND's 8 so far. The titles magically started popping up when USC and Miami went on their respective runs earlier this decade. The pregame for Miami/tOSU said "nine National Titles will be shared between these two powerhouse programs when Miami and Ohio State square off to find out just who is... the National Champion."

In the 137 or so years of college football, if you tallied up all the titles that are claimed by every school it adds up to like 604 or something like that. Ridiculous.
