So, Ike posted about this device (http://www.kidsbegone.com/index.php) last year. I can't find any other reference to it. But I'm interested in who on here can hear it, and who can't. Listen to the sample here (http://www.jetcityorange.com/mosquito-ringtone/mosquito-ringtone.mp3) at various volume levels. It's actually the ringtone variant of the sound. Be aware that it might be really, really grating for you or some of those around you, so be careful when opening.

After you listen, post whether you heard it at all, your age, and how it made you feel when listening, if you did hear it.

FWIW, I'm 39 (40 in a month and a half), and I can BARELY hear it. I'm actually surprised I can hear it at all after the hundreds of rock shows I've seen, nearly all without hearing protection. I don't think it would bother me in the least in a public setting, though.

36 and I could barely hear it. I would say something like 2-3 out of 10.

For me, It would easily be washed out by other noises in public.

I'm 26 and I can hear it... it gives me a headache. :( It reminds me of that high pitched noise that tv's make when you turn them on, but the volume isn't turned up. I can hear a tv (with no volume) turn on from another room.

I brought my 21 month old daughter over to the computer and played it and although she looked at the screen when I played the sound she didn't seem phased by it. She was more interested in trying to get a drink of my pop.

i turn the volume up all the way and i could hear it. which is amazing as I am very hard of hearing. Now if it was a ring tone on my phone, i would never hear it

7/7/2007, 12:19 AM
That was weird.

I felt it more than I heard it. But I did hear it. And I'm 32, for the record.

The muscles in my head by my ears tensed up. Like I was trying to move my ears, but it was slow, gradual over the first second of the noise.

Couldn't you just run off kids by playing old Lawrence Welk tunes instead?

I'm 27 and I heard it fine. It sounds like when someone leaves a computer monitor on but the computer itself is turned off.

Didn't really bother me, though.

yep, i could hear it just fine. I'm 22. It might bother me if it was turned way up and left on for a long time, but meh. With all the computer noise and air conditioner noise and traffic noise and the flickering monitor, that sound was the least of my annoyances.

I personally think this is a joke to see who will fake hearing something.

It's working too.

Maybe my laptop speakers can't reproduce a sound at that high a range. Can I borrow your headphones?

30 and couldn't hear it until I turned my speakers almost all the way up.

And even then if it didnt click when it ended I would think it was still going, it blended into the background noise.

I hear nothing... and I'm just a young 'un.

Can drinking boo-coos of alcohol while on vacation affect your hearing?

Me and my roomate couldn't hear anything, age 23. I heard a few clicks at the beginning when I put on my headphones, and I'm also using a laptop.

My dog however, was greatly interested in the noise. She got all perked up and was sniffing the computer.

Once I turned the speakers up, I could hear it fine. I'll be 43 in September.

I'll be fiddy in less than a month. I cranked it all the way up. All I heard was the usual buzzing/ringing I have 24/7. Somewhere between The Who, Grand Funk, Deep Purple, Kiss, Foghat, howitzers, airplanes, machinery, guns, and a couple busted eardrums methinks I shant ever hear it.
