Holy *ss, Garth f'in Brooks is in Washington, D.C. with Trisha Yearwood, a couple of backup singers...and just one microphone that doesn't seem to work. Or maybe aggy just don't remember how to use the microphone to make your voice more louder.

Sucks that he had to go all the way to the nation's capital to play a Live Earth show. I guess we're still a couple of years away from Live Earth: Owasso...

Actually, I think I have an idea...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=466775&in_page_id=1879

"...A Daily Mail investigation has revealed that far from saving the planet, the extravaganza will generate a huge fuel bill, acres of garbage, thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions, and a mileage total equal to the movement of an army.

The most conservative assessment of the flights being taken by its superstars is that they are flying an extraordinary 222,623.63 miles between them to get to the various concerts - nearly nine times the circumference of the world. The true environmental cost, as they transport their technicians, dancers and support staff, is likely to be far higher.

The total carbon footprint of the event, taking into account the artists' and spectators' travel to the concert, and the energy consumption on the day, is likely to be at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com, who specialises in such calculations.

Throw in the television audience and it comes to a staggering 74,500 tonnes. In comparison, the average Briton produces ten tonnes in a year.

The concert will also generate some 1,025 tonnes of waste at the concert stadiums - much of which will go directly into landfill sites..."

Yeah, me neither. I do recycle metals that are no longer needed that the company expects me to throw in the dumpster, just throw it in the van and bring it home for the recycling bin.

I for one am very politically conservative yet I harbor a healthy concern about the future of our environment. I cannot stand wastefulness of resources or disrespect to God's creation.

That said, I similarly cannot stand hypocrisy, over the top grandstanding by unqualified generators of opinion, and interruptions of good music by azz.

And Bri, I'm more open-minded than any atheist--not only do I believe in much of the message of the Gaithers, I also believe they're hokey. :D

On 8/8/8 I'm going to hold an event called "Dead Earth." And it's going to have a smaller carbon footprint than "Live Earth." Because the only way it could have a larger one is if I dropped an asteroid on Australia. Which is beyond my power as yet. But a man can dream, right?

I was watching NOVA on PBS yesterday and I think they keep changing their minds as to when it might hit. Evidently the orbit changes as it passes closer or nearer to Earth or any other mass in orbit around the sun.

The last I saw, they didn't really predict where it might hit Earth, they chose Southern California as an example of what might be the result should it hit. They also said if it hit in the Pacific Ocean, the Tsunamis would devastate the coastal regions with 50+ foot waves for days I believe.

Hey, I have a brilliant new point to bring to this discussion:

A lot of harm was done to the environment to put on this concert that's supposed to help the environment.

If people really want to help the environment, they should just die. All this going places and doing things to raise awareness is doing more harm than good.

Actually, the same couldn't be said about Fox News and Rush Limbaugh because the message is non-stop. It's not like you get ten minutes of rock show followed by five minutes of "dimz are teh debil".

Nice effort, though. You didn't quite stick the landing, but I think you'll get an extra sympathy point from the French judge.

You're still wrong. The point remains, if you don't like the message don't listen to it. Freedom of speech goes both ways, at least for a little while longer.

I'm still wrong? Really?

You're right, I stand corrected. An all-day music festival with occasional speeches and short films conveying a "message" is exactly the same thing as talk radio. Instead of listening to the music and then muting the annoying speeches, you can just listen to the commercials and mute the annoying ENTIRE PROGRAM.

Nice use of the "I'm rubber and you're glue" defense to try and deflect from the fact that your 'arguement' is made of both lose and fail.

You seem to be extra dense and extra defensive today. I was agreeing with you, if you don't want to hear a certain message because you think it's politically slanted in the direction opposite of your opinions, don't ****ing listen to it.

Your incredulous ******rocketry-laced martyr defense never gets old though, always entertaining.
