So my mom and I are takin' my younguns to visit my bro in NYC next week, and it occurs to me I've never seen Niagara Falls. YAY! ROAD TRIP! I've been told by numerous trustworthy people that to really see it, you have to go the Canadian side. Since international travel regulations have understandably tightened up, I am wondering what documents we need to get across the border. Now, I have a passport, but my chirren and my mom do not. A look at the State Department's Web site tells me:

"Land and sea travelers are encouraged to have a valid U.S. passport. If they do not have a passport, they should be prepared to provide a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth or naturalization certificate."

I am interpreting this as we'll be able to get across without passports as long as we have driver's licenses and birth certificates for the kids. Am I right? Anybody here ever been denied entry to Canada because they couldn't produce a passport?

Yes, I know Canadians are peacenik hippies and they smoke weed. Go tit. I assure you we just want to see the majesty of mother nature and scurry back home.

Well Canada was on a delayed passport process beforehand, the outcry that caused the overall relaxing of the restrictions were all the people who think that Cancun vacations are the be all end all.

p.s. most of the Canadian peacenik lettuce smoking hippy types live west of Manitoba ;)

The "kick ***" was for the "NO PASSPORT REQUIRED." Not because Czar isn't going.

Plus, hookers aren't going to just ritually decapitate themselves, you know.

I was going to go to Canada and check for you VK, but I decided I didn't want to use the gas to drive 15 miles. Sorry.

No problem. I bet a rusted out '85 Firebird gets lousy gas mileage.

we just went last summer with out little ones...take birth certificates of them with you just in case. We had no trouble going over the border, but coming back in was a little bit of a hassle, nothing major...
The canadian side is way touristy, like walking down a midway on your way to the boats. It is a very steep walk...my fatass had to stop at the wendys half way up..

well a semi rusted out 94 tempo doesn't do much better. I mainly don't want to wait in line to cross either the bridge or tunnel :D

besides, the biggest draw of Windsor now is the Jamaican resturant. I can gamble at the Casinos in Detroit now :D

Oh yeah, you do need to be on the Canadian side. If you stay on the US side, you are on top of the falls, looking down, and I don't think you can see around the bend to the main falls. But you can on the Canuck side. Have fun. Our kids loved it. I can't remember how much the boat ride was.
