In the extreme lightweight division.

Or maybe not.

Ive been doing a lot of thinking, and I have come to the conclusion that learning some martial arts would be awesome. Here's the school I am looking at: ClickityClick (http://www.jademountain.org/)

Im interested in the Adult Kung Fu classes, along with the grappling, kickboxing/sparring and Chen Taiji classes. They also advertise in ONE spot on the site that they teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

:)

If I were you I would move to England and join a Football Firm. That takes some toughness.

"Martial arts" is for phags. Even Bruce Lee couldn't dodge a bullet. Learn the art of self-defense via firearms. Much more efficient and effective.

I cant legally own a 'firearm' until I am 21. So... thanks for playing. ;)

Yes you can. You just can't own a handgun until 21. Rifles are a different story if I remember correctly.

Great...

Now Melo has a shotgun.

This won't end well. ;)

What happens if they take your gun away and use it on you?

What happens if someone takes her feet or hands away from her and then turns it on her? What then Mr Smarty Pants.

Melo, FWIW, consider Kim Soo Karate (http://www.kimsookarate.com/). I cannot recommend them highly enough, especially if you can get to the classes with Grandmaster Kim Soo and Master Sean Kim (his son). Both are excellent and patient teachers.

Sadly, there are no longer any masters of Hamster Style to learn from.

You're missing the "O RLY?" at the end of that. :D

I did Tae kwon do for 12 years of my early life... although pretty it isnt as practical as some of the other arts. I also wrestled. If you really want to do something you should do some Muai Tai boxing... Then I would work Brazilian jui jitsu, which while very effective is wrestling with punches and elbows. Then you'd truly have the best of both worlds... knees and elbows.

It really just depends on what you want to prepare for. 1 on 1... well, there's a reason that the people who dominate all the UFC style stuff are all excellent grapplers.

OTOH, any time you're against multiple people (bar fight, for example), you probably don't want to go to ground if you can avoid it.

Tai Chi (or taijiquan) is incredibly effective when those slow, graceful moves you see old people doing are sped up lightning-fast.

Oh, and just for Homey, I've had police AND military personnel tell me that if you have two people less than 25 feet apart - one with a gun, one with a knife - the guy with the knife wins 90% of the time. ;)

Ditto.

...and there's nothing to say that you can't also learn how to handle a firearm when you want to do that. Personally, I prefer not to have to rely on deadly force as my only option. (and don't think, "oh, I'll just shoot him in the "X" and it won't kill him." One of the first things you learn in firearm training is that you don't produce the weapon unless you're willing to fire it, and you don't fire it unless you're willing to kill. There's a time and place for that, certainly, but the times I've been thankful for my martial arts training weren't close to situations that called for deadly force).

Mixed martial arts is where it's at. Striking and grappling skills will prepare you for just about anything. Many schools also offer weapons defense, and that's a REALLY fun class!

Go. Start. It's been great not only for fitness, but also for stress management.
