I heard that they just opened a Mahogany Steakhouse in OKC. After that, it's all the same.

My parents are coming up tonight for dinner in OKC. We had planned on taking them to CafeNOVA, but my mom wants steak. We usually go to Boulevard if we want good steak, but we don't want to get that dressed up. We're looking for something along the lines of Lottinvilles that has a good steak.

Any suggestions?

Pack it up and drive to Ponca and go to the Rusty Barrel and get the fillet....you won't be sorry.

NOVA has a good tenderloin, as well as a cocoa beef strip, which is very good.

Cattlemen's is still pretty good. Charleston's used to have an awesome peppersteak, but they stopped serving them for some reason.

here's the deal:

mahogany is the best meal you'll ever eat.

the question is: is any meal, regardless of how good it is, worth that kind of jack.

Mickey Mantle's is still very good and, being in bricktown, casual attire is the norm.

Yes, OKC really needs a Ruth's Cris or Pappa Bros. Steakhouse.

Morton's is much better than the butter steak at Ruth Chris.

Since you live in their general area, Rococo has some good steaks and you can pretty much go as-is...

do n't your folks live in Lawton? Take them to a Western Sizzlin'. They will probably be impressed.

Forget Western Sizzlin', take them to Mackie McNeer's...they will think it is higher class.

we ended up going to Ranch. It was very good, but I think I still prefer Boulevard (mostly because I like the filet fromage)

also, I hate yermom for suggesting Chili's and I was terribly disappointed by Rococo. I has high hopes since I literally live 3 blocks from it.

what is the cheese on filet fromage? stilton? that, a hard sear, and a port finish is about all you could justify on a good filet.

I've had a good filet at Mickey Mantle's. As a Tulsan, I agree, Mahogany is hard to beat, but it is pricey, indeed.

Not for an everyday meal, but on special occasions. It is definitely a place that you have to eat at once. You will never think about steaks the same way again.

Take your kids while they still don't know the value of money and they can truly enjoy it.

Seriously. I used to love eating at the uber-expensive places when I was a kid. Once I got a job and learned the value of money... well, I can't properly enjoy places like that anymore.

When I was a kid, anything without a drive through felt "uber-expensive".

Vaevictis
6/28/2007, 08:16 AM
Heh, I didn't know it was uber-expensive at the time. But it was.

I actually remember when it hit me. We were at some place in Houston, and was asked if I was going to have some of the Australian rock lobster. I thought about it for a second, saw the price, and my stomach literally turned.

I can't bring myself to eat that stuff anymore. I feel like I'm eating $20 bills.

I won't eat at a place unless it costs at least $75/plate to eat there. The other places are always filled with Wal-Mart shopper type people.

what drives me nuts is when someone will go to a place like IHOP and order a steak and then complain to the staff that it's not good. well DUH. IHO PANCAKES........ORDER WHAT THEY'RE GOOD AT!

FIXEDOh, that reminds me. We went to this really great Seafood restaurant 'near' the ocean but not on it when we were in Houston about 3 weeks ago. Its called Goodes and the food was terrific, plus they make the best Mai Tai. If any of you are out that way, you should try it.

Well in your mind, yes. However, fish caught on the same day, on the same boat very well may be served the same day in OKC as it is on the coast. They've got this new invention out - it's called an.........airplane.:texan:

Heh.

You know, the Native people up here have a "delicacy" they refer to as "stinky meat."

I have a feeling we'd get a quick intro to "stinky fish" if we used the USPS for fresh fish..
