Apparently, the name Iwo Jima came about because of clerical error, so they changed it back to the original name of Iwo To

I'm pretty sure "Iwo" means "smoking" in Japanese.

They should change the name "Japan" back too.

IMO This is a way for the japanese to try rewrite history. Believe it or not, the story of Iwo Jima was not taught in schools and alot of other facts about the war considered not proper . Young Japanese folks did not learn about it until Flags of our fathers and letters from Iwo Jima were released. So I guess changing the name will delete that little but of history that cost so many so much.
