View Full Version : A message from Senator Inhofe...

The dude is spot on with this...

Before long, the U.S. Senate will engage in yet another round of debate and backroom deal making on the comprehensive immigration reform bill.

And once again, the overwhelming majority of Americans who are deeply concerned about this bill will stand up in opposition. It’s the American people that have prevented its passage so far, and only the American people can stop it a second time. My fellow Senators, under tremendous pressure from party leaders, need to be reminded now more than ever that American citizens have strong opinions on immigration reform and border security.

The inescapable fact is that this bill guarantees amnesty for 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants with no clear indication that the border will be secured once and for all. Until real progress is made in stepping up border security and preventing the flow of new illegal immigrants, the question of what to do about illegal immigrants already here is irrelevant. As long as the source of illegal immigration, a porous border left irresponsibly neglected, remains unaddressed, it is impossible to have a meaningful discussion about a path to citizenship for those already here.

In preparation for the upcoming debate, I’ve started the Secure Borders Now online petition at www.SecureBordersNow.com (http://www.securebordersnow.com/). It gives American citizens a direct voice into the Senate debate. Already, just a few days after the site launched, we have received thousands of signatures and touching personal messages in opposition to the bill. They range from a story of personal achievement for a proud Texan who immigrated legally to a story from a gentleman who gave twenty years of military service, but now wonders how his children and grandchildren can remain safe when we don’t even enforce our own border security laws.

Now, more than ever, we need signatures from every part of the country. I’ll be sending each Senator the petition signatures from the citizens of his or her state as well as a summary of the tremendous response nationwide. We must remind them how passionately the American people feel about this issue.

Please take a moment to sign the petition at www.SecureBordersNow.com (http://www.SecureBordersNow.com) and I hope you will share the link with your friends and family who care as much as I do about protecting this country and doing what’s right.

Army Spec. Alex Jimenez, who has been missing since his unit was attacked by insurgents in Iraq on May 12, had petitioned for a green card for his wife, Yaderlin, whom he married in 2004, Boston's WBZ-TV reported Tuesday.
Their attorney, Matthew Kolken, said the woman illegally entered the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2001.

So, you think she should stay?

I think Army Specialists, truck drivers, accountants, etc. need to find a legal way marry and keep their spouses here.

So, you think she should stay?Better yet...a woman is pregnant in Tijuana Mexico and right before she delivers, she gets her pregnant butt across the border and the kid is born in the United States...what do you do??? The kid is "by law" an American Citizen, but the mother is not.

I guess since we've come up with two wacked out scenarios in which citizenship is questioned we should just tear down the fences and forget about the whole immigration/citizenship thing altogether.

Obviously we can all come up with valid scenarios that pose difficult questions. I could come up with just as many for taking a human life (if someone comes into my house with a knife and starts swinging it at my children). Does that mean that we should eliminate all laws related to killing each other and grant amnesty to all current murderers in prison?

And before anyone suggests that I'm equating illegal immigration to murder...I'm not. I'm simply using an absurd parallel to make my point. I don't think illegal immigrants should be caned or taunted or go to prison, but they should have to go back to their country and come back under legal means.

The point that I was trying to make was along the lines of the wife of the missing soldier. Her husband was serving his country in an honorable way...BUT, his wife was here illegally. His service has NOTHING to do with the fact that she entered this country the wrong way...it was pure laziness (to my understanding of the laws) all they had to do was get her registered since he was already a citizen.

enforce the laws we got.....IMO, if they all became legal, they would quit mowing lawns, washing dishes, etc and start taking the higher income jobs that they can not get now.

But then who will mow the yards?

There was an article in the paper earlier this week about an illegal immigrant who just graduated from college. She can't get a job in her field because she isn't legal. It struck me as very funny that she received her degree in teaching - what a role model.
And the article wants us to feel sorry for her. Ummmm, no. She knew, or should have known, before she decided on her major that she wouldn't be able to get a job.

You've been watching too many movies. I married a Russian (not a mail order bride) in July of 2003. She didn't get to come over until October 2005 (and this was with the help of a frat brother who works for a US Senator). She is on a temp green card until Oct 2007 (temp status is 2 years after they arrive, not when you get married). She can then start on the citizenship path, which will take another 5 years (maybe longer if they allow the 12 million illegals to gain status).

it's not like they now will magically have skills to do other jobs

i'd rather them be legal and hiding in the shadows anyway

what is really the difference between having little Johnny mow your lawn or having Pedro do it? it's not like either of them are paying taxes on it

kinda the same with Lupe cleaning your house, i've known lots of citizens that do that for cash and likely do not claim it for taxes or anything

have they made any provisions for non-hispanics in this deal? people on expired student visas, etc...?

How about what a friend of mind proposes:

Hi Bill,Thanks for this information - sent mine in. I just don't know why the folks in Washington don't get it - it's a no brainer. Everyone wants to give the illegals amnesty because they don't want to face the impossible task of finding and moving15MM people out of the country. Its really easier than that:
TODAY - begin to close and lock our borders to all but LEGAL travel and immigration.Second - pass laws with sentencing guidelines that would put HR managers, and key executives in jail for hiring illegals. Third, come up with a tamper proof card that only legal workers can obtain, fourth, let the process take a year to implement - then...The day CNN first shows just one president of one of the Fortune 500or WalMart, etc. being led away in handcuffs - no more jobs for illegals - guess what, the vast majority of the 15MM show up by themselves at the borders and go home.
Right at the moment I think that securing our borders and not electing Hillary are the two most important political issues on my mind. There are a lot of other concerns I have that would not seem so threatening if the above were behind us.

Illegals commit half the homicides in Phoenix, so equating illegal immigration to murder really isn't that much of a stretch.

Great, so Americans will have to step up to meet demand if the illegals leave. Where's my gun?
