So I just get a call from Czar, who is at the pediatrician's office with our son. Little Czar has been sick since Sunday... they think it is appendicitis, and are running a blood test to confirm. So if that is in fact the case... that pretty well means he will go right into surgery and we are spending the night at the hospital, correct?

I mean... they don't treat it with penicillin and let it be, right? I always thought they just automatically remove the appendix.

This sucks BTW. Thanks for asking.:(

Do you need me to bring some booze to the hospital? ;)

Seriously, I hope the little guy's ok. Also, if it turns out to not be appendicitis, ask them to do a test to see if it is his gall bladder.

****! I still can't get a straight answer. The nurse just told me they are trying to rule out "early" appendicitis. WTF is the difference? She just said to wait by the phone, the doctor will be calling me shortly. ARRRGH. Patience is not a strong point for me.

early appendicitis is an inflamed or irritated, the accute means it is about to blow and of course the erupted means well you better get that thing out now. lost of toxins flowing in the body cavity

The more inflamed it is, the quicker they need to get it out. Maybe if you catch it early enough they can treat it with antibiotics?

I hope your little guy is ok. When I had mine out I thought I was going to die. I litterally couldn't walk it was some seriously horrendous pain. Right before I went in they also told me I had a tumor in my stomach WTF!? Anyways, they rolled me and yanked the bitch out.

I turned out alright.

He will be just fine, I just hope they make him comfortable.

Czar Soonerov
6/19/2007, 05:26 PM
His temp was 102.1 about an hour ago so I put him in the bath. He's resting on the couch, about to go to sleep. He did awesome when they took his blood. Screamed a little when they poked him, but didn't move his arm at all.

WebMD says that the appendix is on the right side and his pain is on the left, so I don't know. The main reason they want to rule it out is because they found blood in his urine and no sign of a urinary tract infection. It's probably just a virus. I was having some of the same symptoms yesterday.

Czar Soonerov
6/19/2007, 05:44 PM
OK, the doc just called.

No appendicitis.

They think it's probably just a virus. We're getting him some motrin for the fever. We've been giving him Tylenol and the fever won't go down. She said we could alternate between the two every two hrs and that should take care of it.

Whew.

Now that I posted it, I guess I'll call VK and let her know what the doc said now.

;)

Poor baby. I'll be hoping for a quick recovery.
Blood in the urine is a little unusual for a viral infection. Doesn't mean that it can't happen, and I definitely wouldn't freak out over it, but be sure that the doc follows that up.
Hopefully all will be better tomorrow!

The motrin lowered his fever. He says he feels fine now (his camp is going to the zoo tomorrow & he wants to go sooo bad).

The whole family went unconscious around 7 out of relief that he didn't have appendicitis.

blood in urine and pain can be kidney stones. pain is usually unbearable, but small ones could be causing trouble. But he's probably a bit too young for that.

Either way, glad he's feeling better.

Kidney stones are the worst. But that pain is obviously in the back. with the apendix mine started in the middle of my stomach then travled outward. with kidney stones you feel like your kidney is on fire. i do not wish that on anyone.
