DES MOINES, Iowa -- A toilet paper caper out of Marshalltown is on a roll.

The Marshalltown County Sheriff's Office said Suzanne Marie Butts, 38, was caught Friday ripping off three rolls of toilet paper from the Marshall County courthouse.

Butts is facing up to three years in prison for the theft.

A Florida woman is butting in, saying she feels sorry for Butts.

If the Web site of South Floridian Margaret Briganti works, 1 million rolls of toilet paper could soon be rolling into Marshalltown.

In an e-mail sent to KETV sister station KCCI on Tuesday, Briganti stated that she wants to save Butts' hide.

"(It's) the first time I did this. It's the first time," Butts said on Friday.

Efforts to contact Briganti failed, but Briganti wrote that she has started a Web site to get Butts butt out a sling by having 1 million Americans send one whole roll of toilet paper to the Marshall County courthouse.

Marshalltown police said that on Friday, Butts was arrested on charges of stealing $30 from a family member. That makes four theft charges against her.

"Yeah, but I didn't do no jail time. I didn't go to jail for that. I just got a ticket," Butts said.

Briganti wrote it was sad that Paris Hilton get off with a slap on the wrist, and that Butts could potentially do prison time for the thefts.

Briganti hopes other Americans others will join her in giving the courthouse a good "TPing" that Marshall County won't soon forget.

Briganti requested that KCCI let her know when the courthouse is overrun with toilet paper from caring Americans who want to help out.

And here's her Fan Site (http://savesuzannemariebutts.wetpaint.com/?t=anon)

That reminds me, one of my favorite case names from First Year Con Law was Weiner v. US. The Supreme Court opinion was written by Mr Justice Frankfurter. You can't make this stuff up folks.
