Does anyone work at the OU Med Center? A very close friend of mine got taken there by ambulance from her home in Altus last night in preterm labor. :( It's a good hospital right? I assume it must have a great NICU if that's where they chose to take her. I'm worried for her. She is 31 weeks along and so far the magnesium drip hasn't completely stopped the contractions although she is doing a lot better than she was last night thank the Lord!

The NICU just got completely redone, and is pretty awesome from all accounts. OU Med Center's probably the best place to go, esp. in an emergency for the reasons OUHOMER stated. Hope your friend and the baby are OK!

It's where all the experts and the non-English-speaking patients go. It's good.
Good luck to your friend.

Tell your friend to chill. They routinely save 24 weekers these days. At 31 weeks, that kid will be fine.

What Homey say's. My 1st was born at 33 weeks. He's 16 and bigger than me. It's all good.

Her last baby was born at 35 weeks so she's no stranger to early births. There's always risks involved though. Unfortunately we both know a person who lost baby that was born at 32 weeks. :( I sounds like she is in really good hands at the Med Center though. :)

Not that this has anything to do with babies/labor, per se, but OU Med Ctr is the only Level One Trauma Center in Oklahoma.

...also, Children's Hospital is there, so there will be top notch afterbirth care with a young'un like that.

So, OKC > Tulsa?

They took her off the magnesium drip at 3pm and she has only had 1 contraction since. Hopefully she will be going home tomorrow. :) She says that all the nurses have been wonderful and if she didn't live so far away from it she would want to deliver there.
