whats funny, is that its actually more difficult to get an EIB (the same badge without the wreath) than it is to get the CIB.....however the CIB can be fatal where the other one cant be

expert

you have to go thru like 20-30 different stations/tasks, all of them pretty tough and you can make any mistakes

You'll see this on a Marine for the same experience.

you will rarely see any type of that badge on a USAF member, unless they served as a USA augmentee in Iraq.

Some exceptions. For instance, in Vietnam, many South Viet Infantry units were "advised" by officers of other combat arms...Armor, Field Artillery, Air Defense, etc. These men were awarded the CIB as well if they came under fire while attached to ARVN Infantry or, as was often the case, were actually in command of US Infantry units (I was lucky, stayed mounted, but many of my brother tankers earned the CIB while "OJT" as platoon leaders and company commanders with the infantry.) Even medics and other MOS's could be awarded the CIB under similar circumstances.
Congrats to the young man and let us pray for his safety and success in his mission.
