Got all logistics squared away. In country company flights will be interesting, I've been told a Dash-8 and then a Twin Otter...It is also the rainy season there - lovely...

Been warned not to use the hotel computers, don't bring money or credit cards (everything is picked up by my local subsidiary company). Camp living for a week and then to Lagos for 2 days...Insect repellent and malarone. One contractor died from malaria last month - he didn't take his malarone properly.

I have to fly Air Pierre, but at least I will get Continental OnePass miles - yeah! That should bounce me over Platinum Elite status for next year.

Hold down the Sooner fort while I'm gone.

If someone offers you some yellowcake, make sure you don't eat it.

Tall Girl's sister just went over there a couple of weeks ago to help at some abused women's shelter.

When she got to the Lagos airport, her ride wasn't there and his mobile was disconnected.

Needless to say, she spent a night at a safe hotel and skedaddled back to the US the next day.

Excuse my ignorance but whats going on over there? Civil war type stuff? Huge corruption?

Good luck to ya. Have fun. Bring back Sicem a date if possible.

A girl I went to field camp with in Colorado last summer is currently in Sudan and other areas doing grad work. I've heard its rough over there right now.

According to the emails I recieve, that place is filled with millionaires who die tragic early deaths with no clear next of kin.

Apparently, the Minister of Finance has died and left an ***-ton of money to his son and his son needs someone to wire the money to in the US.

At least I am supposed to have an armed guard while traveling. At least when I get to the camp, it is enclosed and safe. Lagos, I have an armed guard and driver.

There have been kidnappings, but not in the area I am going - yet...We have pretty good relationships with the King of the area I am going to, so hopefully they are happy.

In short, the oil companies are paying what they are due to the government, they government is corrupt and the local states are not getting any of the money, they are made and have resorted to what they think will get them notice, attacks on the oil companies and affiliates. Corruption is rampant. Heading to a construction camp where we are building gas facilities.

Yeah, our consensus was that Tall Girl's Sister was about to get kidnapped. I have a feeling there's a healthy market for 5'10" blondes over there.

I figured I could have the driver find one of these guys and I could make the hook up...:D

Oh, and I am sure some of the women just outside of the compound gates wouldn't mind being Sic'Em's GF. He may need to front the airfare, but I'm sure I could bring him back a date. :D

Greetings from Sub-Sahara Africa and Nigeria...

It is the rainy season now, I am soaked! Spent the day on-site doing my walkthroughs and reviews. I thought Houston was hot and humid, that is nothing compared to here!! You now those National Geographic pictures? Well they tell the story. I live in a "life camp" think Boy Scout camp only you can have a beer or two in the evening. Due to security reasons, we are locked down, but tonight is a special celerbration - the camp is abuzz. It is "Bingo" night here, which is code word in the little town outside the fence that unaccompanied women will be allowed in the camp for the party. Now socializing outside of the public areas, but the guys (a mix of Europeans, North Americans, Nigerians, Philipinos, Koreans and Japanese) are excited from what I understand. So I'll get to have a local brew (Star and Gulder Lager) tonight...

The locals get there water and bath from a spigot that sticks out our the camp fence. People walk around balancing things on their heads. Oh and traffic in Lagos, outstrips anything you can imagine in the U.S. I only got around because I had a police escort (standard for expat transfers) that had their siren and horn going constantly.

Hard days work today and tomorrow, then heading out to Lagos Monday. Which may have a national strike and if so, no work will get done Tuesday and I head back to the U.S. that evening.

Successful work so far, glad it is almost over.
