Im getting married in November. We are thinking we want something different for the wedding music. Same songs, just done differently, like acoustic guitars or a combination of strings. Just something different than the traditional organ. any suggestions?

How about some Michael Jackson? The depositions say he has a non-traditional organ.

Does that help at all?

I went to a wedding where after they were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Marriedpeople for the first time they exited to the theme to Indiana Jones. On a serious note I was in a wedding where the bride had something else played other than the tradional wedding march organ song. It was nice. I'll try and find out for ya.

strings of all kind are weak unless you have them plugged in to an amplifier with extreme distortion. go for a brass choir. not a quintet, an entire brass choir. then tell them that when the old people start complaining- they're almost loud enough.

At our wedding (Mrs. THA was a music ed major) her friends played at our wedding, we had a chamber orchestra (basically) and it was real nice. If you're near a college with a music program, I bet you could hire some students for your gig.

Pretty much the only decision I (was allowed to have) made at our wedding was the music.

We had a brass quintet, or which my wife and here friends were initially very apprehensive about. The played traditional wedding stuff prior to the service and for the march and all that, and then playes some dixieland stuff afterward while the guests went to the reception hall (it was an outdoor wedding with the reception hall adjacent to where the service was) and the formal pictures were taken.

They turned out to be a big hit.

At the risk of being pelted with rocks and garbage, I would suggest you watch the movie "Love Actually" where Keira Knightley (or however you spell her name) gets married. Pretty cool music dealio in that ceremony.

The 10th. I know its a Saturday, but the place we chose to get married has 3 open Saturdays: Oct 6th, to which I said if you get married on that day, it wont be to me, Nov 3rd( atm) and Nov 10th. I figure if I have to miss a game, it should be the Baylor game. She caught me looking at the schedule as she was telling me the dates. I told her she knew what she was getting into when she said yes, so she shouldnt be surprised.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Im gonna spend the weekend on google and itunes trying to find some samples of how they sound. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

One of the most unique 'walking out' songs I heard was "500 Miles" by the Proclaimers

I hear they can wail bigtime on some Handel, and their tribute to ZZ Top is a smash at receptions.
I'll try to get their number for you.

If you'd like the band to all wear shoes:

And if you have a bigger budget.

These guys are classy, but lack that "je ne sais quoi."

For the record, one of my nieces consistently ranks in the top echelons of Kentucky dulcimer performers.
