prayers, karma, good thoughts, whatever is your particular custom or practice.
Mrs. Homey's 78 y/o mama is in the hospital in Charleston preparing to undergo a triple by-pass and valve replacement.
See, she had been having fainting spells we now know were due to her horrible circulation. The doc says the diagnostic tests indicated a net 80% blockage.
She's got a great surgeon who is on the staff at the Medical University of SC, which is the wife's Nursing alma mater. The doc does a half dozen of these procedures a week and tells us she's a great candidate for the procedure.
He's been great and has called Mrs. Homey every night to give her a report since her mom was admitted on Tuesday. I even checked the guy out. He's widely published and in over twenty years of practice since board certification, he's only been sued three times -- and those suits were all eventually dismissed. That is indeed impressive for a heart cutter.
That said, scary to think this sweet old lady who has been in my life for over 25 years is gonna have her chest splayed open, her heart stopped, and a bunch of slicing and splicing.
Mrs. Homey is headed to be with her tomorrow. The surgery is scheduled for Monday. Mrs. Homey is taking FML to stay with her for about two weeks, especially since the immediate post-surgical recovery period is rough for most folks after this sort of thing. Daughter and me are going to hang back but will head that way if things go south.
