Just the cold facts. I want to understand the real essence of taking up residency there.

Their motto is "At least we aren't Castroville"

Hope that helps.

Hondo is actually on the fringe of the Hill Country, on pretty level terrain.
Not really a terribly pretty place, but a generally friendly spot. What you see as you drive in on Hwy 90 won't exactly elate you, but there is a cool sign that sez "This is God's Country. Please don't drive through it like Hell."
What to do in Hondo? Well, they take HS football very seriously, the Owls having been in the playoffs more than any other Texas HS team, though nevAr going all the way.
The Herrmann's Sons steakhouse is OK...gots a bar!
The old WW2 Hondo Army Airfield is still active for civvie use and primary flight training and there are annual airshows there...nothing major, but nice.
There's a flat lil' golf course there.
It's on the way to Del Rio, Lake Amistad, and messico.
The choo-choo passes through regularly.
They gots a good dentist.
They gots a Wally World.
The HS uses Michigan's fight song.
Colors are Blue and White.
Town mostly "hispanic".
Good deer, dove, hog hunting if you can find and afford a lease or have the right friends.
Used to have virtually so little crime that no one locked their doors...not anymore.
You can drive through some pretty hills, going north, and be in Bandera, sippin' a brew at Arkie Blue's before too long. Go further and yer in Kerrville.
Some nice older houses, but architecture and upkeep vary along most streets.
Cemetery still has vacancies.
If you gots a son and he ain't interested in football, go elsewhere.
Join the Lions Club, Booster Club, Bass Club.
Buy a SuperCombo Texas Hunting/Fishing license.
Buy a Bass Boat.
Not a showplace, but again, some right nice folks.

So, that's pretty much Hondo. Enjoy.
