My wife's sister, Melissa, was murdered in Corpus Christi last night by her husband. My wife really needs some serious prayer. She is pretty devastated. I'm taking her down to Corpus tomorrow to spend time with her family and to grieve.

Thanks alot.

The Child Protective Services is swamped and doesn't have the resources to do the job like it should be done. 1 agent has to keep track with a ridiculous number of children.

I don't envy their job one bit. And when they make a mistake it's devastating.

Well, we made it down safe and sound. We found out that the husband has made bail. I'm worried that my wife's brothers are gonna go and do something stupid. We also found out that although he is the prime suspect in the case, that he still has the right to claim her body. Until he is convicted, he has all the rights of the husband over her and the kids.

My mother in law went down to the funeral home today and tried to claim the body, but she was told that the husband has until 11 am tomorrow to claim the body. If he doesn't claim the body by then, my mother in law can file an emergency order signed by the county judge which would make her the guardian of her body.

So basically, if he wants to be a real jerk, he can claim the body and her family will not get to bury her.

Please be in prayer for this...

I'll update when I have more information. Thanks again for all the prayers and well wishes.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Police said Melissa Vargas, 28, died Sunday night at the home she shared with her husband George. Investigators said she was repeatedly stabbed and left for dead in the bathroom.
Relatives of a woman who was stabbed to death Sunday night said the first time they heard about her murder was on the news.
The victim's brother talked about the tragedy with 6 News' Melissa Monti ([email protected]).
Robert Elliot said he was in the kitchen of his Kingsville home when he heard his sister Melissa Vargas' name on TV. He said he didn't expect what would happen next.
"I saw on the news where it said she had been stabbed and we just panicked. I'm still in shock, it's sunk in already, but you know, I can't believe she's gone," said Elliott.
Police say the 28-year-old had been repeatedly stabbed by her husband George Vargas at their home on Edith Street.
Officers said George attacked Melissa after an argument, but it was George's father who reported the crime to police.
Elliott said the couple had been married for several years, but he said Melissa had moved into her own apartment about a month ago, because the Vargas' marriage was becoming volatile. That's when Elliot said George started harassing Melissa.
"She told me about George keying her car and doing some weird stuff, and I told her to get a restraining order. I guess she didn't take my advice," he said.
Police said there's no documented history of abuse between the couple, but Elliott believed his sister may have been too afraid to mention anything to her family or police.
At last report, George Vargas had been arrested on murder charges. As for the couple's two children, they are currently in the custody of Child Protective Services.

UPDATE:
The husband has been re-arrested because he broke the conditions of his bail by having contact with his kids. He is now in jail with no bond available until he sees the judge.

My mother-in-law now has the rights to the body. The crime victims assistance advocate persuaded the husband to sign the release form which gives my mother-in-law the rights to now bury her properly.

Thanks for the prayers and I will share more information soon.

Well, we buried her today. The service went well. Now the healing can begin. The two children were brought to the funeral by child protective services. This was the first time that they saw their mother in the casket. Talk about tough, this one was definately a hard one to swallow.

I have assisted in many funerals, but today was the first in which I was in charge, and was the primary minister. This one was definately a hard one to officiate. There was tons of people there and we really needed a bigger chapel. The were a large number of people standing in back.

Everything went well and we got through it okay. Thank you for your continuous prayer and support.

We will be heading home to Dallas Sunday afternoon and SAS, I'll give you a call to let you know when we'll be coming through there.

I don't know how they do things nowadays with all the government involvements going on, but I do hope that the state speeds up on that paperwork of theirs so the children can be with their family. CPS will investigate the brother & family, make a home visit and then decide to release the children.
They will still be under official CPS control for a year, with periodic visits to check on the children - they may show up at school, talk to the teachers or whatever.
At the end of the year, if it all went well and no one else tries to claim them (father or his family), the brother will get permanent custody.

I'm not sure how long the inital checks will take - even with family, they have a list of things to to be checked out.

Thoughts and prayers remain.

Prayers and best wishes to you and your family from Dawg Nation.

Things like this remind us that sometimes football is just football and there are things far more important in life.

Well, we are back down visiting the family and we found out that the kids have been temporarily placed with the parents of the husband that killed my sister-in-law. That sucks.

Not only that, but they have setup my wife's family by allowing the kids to spend the weekend with my wife's brother about two weeks ago. Once the kids got back to the grandparents from my wife's brothers house, the grandparents contacted CPS and lied to them telling them that my brother-in-law smoked a joint in front of the kids. (Which is an absolute lie, my b-i-l doesn't even smoke weed). Now nobody on my wife's side of the family is not allowed to even see the kids without supervision.

I can't believe that this mess is going on. CPS didn't even investigate the matter themselves, but somehow totally believe anything that these grandparents tell them.

Remember now, these are the same people who lied to the police at the crime scene telling them that my wife's sister killer herself and also lied to the police telling them that she had no family and that she was an orphan.

When those children were visiting at our wife's brother's house it was very clear and they even said that they didn't want to go back to the grandparents.

I tell you, the whole thing is just sad...very sad. Keep those kids in your prayers.

In. Sorry for the bad news. These kids need better, especially after what they have been through.

That is the pits....isn't there any sort of legal action that can be taken against the grandparents?

I'm thinking that my brother-in-law who is trying to get custody has hired a lawyer. (not the same b-i-l from above) My wife has like 6 brothers. I'm thinking that if things keep going they way they are, their gonna go do something stupid. God forbid if the murderer gets away with it. If that happens I know they'll do something.

I also think there is probably something that can be done in regards to filing a complaint about cps, but I don't know how that might work in Texas.
