Tahnks to all veterans ,past and present.Special thanks to Battalion First Sargeant James E. Moses aka Dad.You may not think that 22 years in the Army with combat in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam qualify you as a hero but your kids think so.Two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart would seem to indicate it too.Yeah I know you said they gave medals to everyone. Thanks Dad Love Jeff.

JK, I think Memorial Day is for both the fallen and those who served beside them. We appreciate your service to our country and are sorry for the loss of friends and family members.

no, actually today is to remember our honored dead

November 11th, Veterans Day is when we are all remembered

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service (http://www.usmemorialday.org/backgrnd.html)

Lets all take an hour or so of silence to remember our fallen....a moment isn't enough to honor all those who have fallen.....in the far past and the very recent past.

I know, but I don't feel that it's inappropriate to thank those but for the grace of God go there.

Here's to Capt. Raymond Pitkin, USN, OSS. My grandfather, and a hell of a man. He passed on a couple of years ago and is buried in the national cemetery in Dallas. Unfortunately, his honorable discharge paperwork was lost in a fire and we were unable to procure full honors for him. :( Captain Pitkin, according to family legend, played a fairly crucial role in the invasion of Normandy. He wouldn't ever talk about it, even after it was declassified-however, his sister, who was a WAV, occasionally would.

Here's to L1C Alfred Rich, USN. My other grandfather. He's not doing so hot-he had a tumor removed from his noggin a few months back and he hasn't recovered his hearing in one ear or his balance yet. A truly courageous man, he was one of the first to attempt a carrier landing. To know what the true measure of that courage was, you have to understand he didn't have instruments. Your job back then was to take off with minimal fuel, patrol, then try to find a moving target on the ocean by dead reckoning.

Here's to those who have volunteered to fight to protect us from threats domestic and foreign. Though we as Americans always have the right to disagree with a particular mission, we should never forget the sacrifice of those in uniform who have chosen to submit their life and safety to the greater good.

Here's to those who made that choice and never came back.

God bless America, and what it stands for. Heartfelt appreciation for all those who have served, both living and dead. May we survive the challenges to our freedom from without and within, the assaults that never seem to abate.

A prayer for all veterans:

May the Lord grant our leaders the strength to change through diplomacy what should be changed, the determination to change through armed conflict what cannot be changed through diplomacy, the humility to walk away form battles not our own, and the wisdom to know the difference. And may those who made the ultimate sacrifice be forever respected and enjoy eternal peace. Amen.
