TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama officials would not comment on reports that coach Nick Saban might have violated NCAA rules limiting contact with potential recruits.

The Miami Herald and canesports.com reported that three south Florida junior prospects described conversations with Saban during his recruiting trip last week that might have exceeded NCAA rules limiting face-to-face contact with recruits to "exchange of a greeting" between April 15 and May 31. Coaches are allowed to evaluate high school players at their schools during that period.

If violations occurred, they were likely secondary and wouldn't lead to significant penalties. Alabama spokesman Doug Walker said Thursday the university would not comment on the reports.

Miami Krop junior linebacker Etienne Sabino said Saban told him he's "the big physical type of linebacker" Alabama needs.

Miami Northwestern High junior Brandon Washington said Saban asked if "my heart was in Miami." He has verbally committed to playing for the University of Miami Hurricanes.

Northwestern teammate Marcus Fortson said he spoke to Saban for "a few minutes" and that the coach told him Alabama "is a great place to get a degree."

Saban has to be guilty.

Nobody in South Florida would break the rules.

Eh, every school is guilty of doing stuff like this every year.

Hard to say those comments are more than "exhanging a greeting." That's not much of a conversation.

This will be 'wrist slapping' crap at worst. No big deal.

Not a big deal IMO. Anyone seriously think this gave him any real advantage in recruiting?

It gave him more negative media. Anytime "[insert coaches name here]" and "NCAA" are usd in the same sentence as "violation," it's like a neg hammer for recruiters. Only difference, others benefit from negging you. The guy already has a bad reputation, and I'm not judging him at all because I don't know a whole lot about him. But I do know about the cloud of smoke above his head surrounding "LSU, NFL (not for long) Miami, Alabamamamama..." recruits families will always take note of this kind of thing.

If I'm the NCAA, I look at it for what it is... a conversation without scholly papers drawn up. Should not be a big deal. Obviously, the kid is old enough to walk away if he feels annoyed or pressured, and they did not. Methinks a simple roll of the eyes will do for this case.

The NCAA Patrol will be on Saban and Alabama like an aggie on a sheep's behind. He better watch his step.

I don't think he'll get the hammer dropped on him, but since the Sugar Bowl....I am inclined to hope so! It's just good to see it public, still waiting on something to come down the line for suc.

No doubt! I developed a strong inclination to dislike the man after that game.
