If the TAKS test is anything like the TAAS test was, lady, if your kid is getting held up due to failing that test, your kid never should have passed 5th grade, never mind graduate from high school.

At Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth, a group of seniors were banned from graduation, because they failed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test, which makes sure students have basic English and math skills before they graduate.

Some of the students who were banned, and some their parents, staged a protest outside of graduation:

A long time ago, people that stupid didn't survive long enough to reproduce. Instead, they would attack a sabre-tooth tiger with a stick or try to bring down a mastedon by standing in front of it and yelling for it to stop. This helped keep humanity on an upward vector, developmentally speaking of course.

Now, as George Carlin says, the kid who swallows too many marbles doesn't die, he gets his stomach pumped out and he lives to procreate and becomes an increased burden on civilization.

This is also a further, and may I say tragic, manifestation of the societal norms engendered and perpetuated by baby-boomers in which there are no winners or losers. In that world-view, every kid gets to play a few innings whether he succs or not and at the end of the season, every kid gets a trophy.

Additionally, there are those who believe this phenomenon is at least partially responsible for the tide of illegals. See, those folks will do what most of our young people won't, because they did not grow up in a world in which children are socialized to expect equal treatment, as distinguishable from equal opportunity which is the notion on which this nation was built.

Our young people have been exposed to this "lets all hold hands and cross the finish line together" claptrap for too long -- and our society is suffering as a result .
