OK, I'm Stumped--Need The SO Computer Gurus

I'm using my old laptop (Windows XP Home)--the one the kids took over. The arrow keys don't work. Everything else on the keyboard works fine but those four little arrow keys are dead. Any way they could have gotten disabled or are they just broken?

if you press the arrow keys just right you can get into the invisible thread.

actually, you have to press it 'just left' to get into the invisible thread.
