Anybody have any ideas for a place to go for about three days before school starts in August? Budget is under $1000 and I am not looking for a place to party ballz for three days, but just relax before I begin law school.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can share.

Thanks, Mike. I feel like I had a "you should have had a V-8" moment... Branson is definitely the Baylor way.

You know you like us. Who else can you put on your schedule and get a guaranteed win even during John Blake's tenure?

I appreciate your CO suggestion and am considering it.

Right now (in no particular order):

Branson
Hot Springs, AR
Colorado

I did it last summer and it was the most relaxing thing I had ever done. We were at some camping area south of Crested Butte. Was an awesome time especially cause we were away from people.

I'm going to go with Colorado. Branson is Branson and is where I got stood up, Hot Springs is a bizzare little quasi-hippy quasi-hillbilly town where SicEmEx eloped.

Go with Colorado.

Dean's Dude Ranch......It'll be cat huntin' season right about then plus chainsaw juggling, while tippytoe on a frontend loader riding and in your free time grab a shovel and hunt for the buried treasure in a mason jar.

Vegas. Depending on how much you gamble you can fly out for three days for well under $1000.

I would go camping in the Taos area- there's a little more to see and you have less of a drive.

The drive to CO from here is rough. I can only imagine doing it from baylor.

Baylor is no where near as strict as ORU. And technically speaking you aren't suppose to drink, but you only get in trouble if you're underage and get caught. Other than that...

Vegas. You can have a lot of fun and never drink, gamble, or look at lewd women. Contrary to most peoples belief. And, it's one of the cheapest vacations there is.

For example, I looked at www.worryfreevacations.com for the hot deals and for May 27, 4 nights at Treasure Island was $356 per person including round trip air and hotel from Dallas. It don't get much cheaper than that. And, Treasure Island is a nice hotel.

Let's see, Drive to Branson or go to Vegas. Oh yeah, that's a tough decision.

Nope, but you can see him in Jackpot, Nevada (http://www.google.com/maps?q=Jackpot,+NV,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title). Or you can stay home and see him at the Cherokee Casino or WinStar

Enjoy (http://www.meltillis.com/roadschedule/default.htm)!

Take the trip to Vegas and then take the side trip to see the Grand Canyon. That should should help put some perspective on the law degree. ;)

BigRedJed
5/21/2007, 04:45 PM
Somehow, I have managed to see him 3 times. Two times I happened to go to the rodeo and he happened to be playing that night (abbreviated shows -- in one I distinctly remember them hauling his band out on a hay wagon at halftime or whatever they have at rodeos), and once I happened to be at Six Flags and he was playing in the ampitheater there. I remember wandering into the ampitheater more or less by chance thinking "WTF am I doing seeing this guy AGAIN?"

Thanks to everyone who has contributed their ideas so far.

Responding to the question asking where I would depart:

I will be leaving from DFW, Love Field or driving from the Dallas area.

Relaxing is the big key. You could do Cancun for that for about a week or you could go to Port Aransas (personal favorite), stay in the Sandcastle Condos and relax on a reasonably nice beach

oh yeah.....not sure how much it costs now, but a couple years ago, i got a trip to puerto vallarta - 4 nights at an all inclusive resort - food, alcoholic drinks, everything - for $450 - that included airfare too.

yeah, but you had to get out and hand start the engines before departure, and serve your own drinks...
