So it looks like Wichita Grand Opera is going to let me conduct a few things on their season-finale concert to see how good a conductor I am. Awesome.

And while I was talking to WGO's President/CEO he asked if OU's Opera Department would be interested in a workshop and collaborative staging of The Pirates of Penzance next spring/summer. So I'll see if our department goes for that.

Heh. Slightly tempering the awesomeness is the realization that I left my cell phone charger in the hotel in Fort Worth on Tuesday. Man, all this traveling and that's the first thing I have ever left in a hotel anywhere. Guess it's time to go buy a new one.

(I called the hotel - they're looking for it, but didn't see one matching my description at first glance.)

I always wanted to be a conductor when I was growing up, but Amtrack had a hiring freeze when I was old enough to apply, and then my career path changed.

I knew a guy that got hit by lightning once. They said he would have died if he hadn't been such a poor conductor.

So, hey, when you're up in the Tittay, stop by some Foot Locker and say Hi to my loser older brother. Last I heard, he was managing one down there.

Awesomeness update:

So, it's definitely on. Monday morning the guy at WGO is giving me a key and desk to use for the week so I can put music together, contract musicians, and so on, then I'll be rehearsing and conducting a substantial part of the concert on June 2nd.

and then he says after that - assuming we still like working with each other after the concert - he wants to have lunch with me and talk about the possibility of me moving back to Wichita and having a job with them on a more permanent basis.

WOO!

tell the WGO guy you want Memorial Day off.

Heh. Oddly, Memorial Day has never been that big a day for me. (As far as the outdoor boozin' and partyin' aspect, anyway. The memorializing part is a perfectly big deal.)

I'm not that much an outdoor recreation type. (Well, summertime anyway. I think I would have a stupid good time on a ski trip.) Give me a beer and something off the grill that evening and I'll be happy.

Dude, there's a couple of good opportunities for that in the stuff I'm conducting. ;)
