View Full Version : Is any one here actually participating in the Gas-Out today?

I'm not buying gas today but that is because my tank is still fairly full, not because I'm gullible and lack a basic understanding of economics.

I never even thought about it, got a few gallons this morning (I was on empty and today was pay day)...Wouldn't have participated anyway had I thought about it. Actually, my wife's car needs gas as well - we'll probably fill hers up today...

TheHumanAlphabet

Hadn't heard anything about it or I would have waited to fill up today instead of yesterday...

I fill up when I need to due to my cars thirst for gas, but unless I do a lot of driving this evening, I'll be fine until Thursday or Friday.

Well, since I had no important missions to accomplish...Bass Pro, fishing, Fox and Hound...I'm participating fully.
'Sides, I gots me plenty o' gas, thanks to Taco Cabana leftovers (See: 2 Bean and Cheese, 2 Beef fajidder with wackymole', and 3 Carne Quisada, plus one burrito, all since Ten AM...groan, and they burn too!)

Was there a tear in his eye?

The real question is; Is there a tear (see: rip) in SB93's trousers and/or sphincter? Burns count too.

Don't worry. Fill up, don't fill up, it doesn't matter. The "Gas-Out" is a total farce. Unless you reduce your mileage, the oil companies make precisely the same regardless of which day you fuel.

If you want to make an impact, reduce the number of miles you drive. Plan errands/trips better. Take advantage of transit opportunities. Move closer to your job. Change cars. Buy a fuel efficient motorcycle, scooter or a bicycle and ride that when you can. Participate in the Bicycle to Work month or day.

Changing the day you get gas instead of the way you use it is laughable. Literally no impact whatsoever.

BTW, I'm not suggesting anyone reduce demand to "punish" oil companies, who I for one don't believe are evil, or greedy, any more than any other publicly held companies are "greedy" when they respond to market forces. I think we should reduce consumption simply because it's the economical, smart, right thing to do, and because it places our national security less at risk.

As I was putting $68.01 worth of fuel into my tank this morning a woman drove by the pump and yelled out her car window, "You know this is National Don't Buy Gas Day"

As I thought you are a little late lady I said, "well I gotta go to work so... (shrug)"

I think I received 10 emails about it this week. It seems like this story has been around for 20+ years - and people still fall for it.

Until the day that A they make it a ok to transport medical samples in a open air truck, or b make an SUV that gets 50 miles to a gallon, or c give me a smaller damn territory. I can't change ****. My happy butt will be on the road visiting my little hospitals being a little ray of sun shine to the basement people that I visit everyday.

Now that you're officially off the market, it's ok to get that mini-van you've been secretly coveting. ;)

Too late. I discovered that in '89. It hits me about Marietta - the stuffy head, etc. I'm fine north of Marietta though.

It would take tremendous discipline and extensive uniformity on a massive level to organize an effective national gasoline boycott. Of course, a real one would have to last several weeks; an even better one would last months. Such actions in theory seems difficult, in practice, nearly impossible.
