Ok, so, I'm going to Japan in a few weeks on a tour with a band. I don't know how much free time I'm going to have but I do know the cities I will be going to. They are: Nagoya, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Tokyo. Has anyone been to these cities? And does anyone know the best way to look up things to do? Like specific websites? I do know that I will have one day in Tokyo. Maybe some of you have suggestions on what to do with a free day in Tokyo. I'm going to keep looking on the web, but if anyone has been there and knows some things to do, that would be appreciated. The coolest part about this trip is after Tokyo, we go to Maui June 7th to the 24th. We are playing at the Hyatt Regency for two weeks.

Tokyo is expensive, I wouldn't advise drinking there and there is a table charge at some places.

If you do go, make sure you go with someone who knows.

Wierd. I am flying to Japan monday morning.

Ginza is cool for shopping. Shinbuyu is awesome as is roppongi (electronics city).

If you do anything though, make it the fish market at the crack *** of dawn. They pull **** out of the sea that blew my mind. Then have sushi for breakfast.

Oh, and for beer, just buy it on the street in a vending machine.

Well, since I am flying to Tokyo tomorrow, I am staying up as long as possible so I can sleep on the plane. Should be interesting to see how long I can last this time!

Akihabara (http://www.akiba.or.jp/index_e.html)is "Electronics Town", Roppongi is a big American, British and Dutch area, my uncle lived in that area for many years. Hiroo is next to it and is similar to Roppongi. I liked the Sapporro Beer Station in Ebisu, a Sapporro owned brew pub. I spent more time in Harajuku than any other area when I wasn't working.

We worked right near T-CAT and stayed in a hotel in Minato-ku right by the Imperial Palace, the Yasukuni Jinja Yushukan War Shrine (http://www.yasukuni.or.jp/english/yasuhtml_english/yusyu.html) is an interesting visit, they had a large expansion in 2000.

Akihabara must be what I was thinking about then. I usually stay at the le meridian in shinagawa across from the station. Very nice area and decent hotel with a great view of the entire city.

Anyone know if cell phones bought there will work here?
Thanks for the input thus far.
Olevet, if I see them, I'll say hello for the both of us. What's the Japanese equivalent to Natty Light? I figure that would be a good indication.

My blackberry works over there, but i think it has some special setup. When I just had a reg cell phone, it didn't recognize the network.

A friend of mine goes over there every other year with his punk band. They love that place and they REALLY love american bands. They usually just hang out with the locals, go to other punk shows, do some site seeing that's already been mentioned in this thread.

Besides all the cool gadget-ry, if you ever wanted to get a killer tattoo, that is probably the best place on earth to get one. Unbelievable artist over there....
