I just found out my little sister bought me a 3 day pass. I was really worried about it conflicting with the Miami game, but it is on the weekend of Utah State.

I'm pretty excited.

you're right. I should tell my sister no thanks for her birthday gift in order to keep from missing one home game, because missing one game would totally make me bandwagon.

2) I'm not too into QOTSA. I saw them when they opened for Ween back in '99 at Will Rogers Theater and they're better live than on their albums, but I'm not that into them. (also, they're playing at the same time as Spoon)

....with proper credit to the online Houston Chronicle...

AUSTIN — Austin City Limits Music Festival was smoking today, but not from the hundreds of bands expected to rock the park this weekend.

A fire dispatcher said propane tanks ignited as thousands of music fans packed Zilker Park, where the famed weekend festival was just getting under way. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze.

Two workers near food service trailers were critically injured and were transported to a hospital. One of them suffered from throat burns, while the other person suffered from third-degree external burns, said Warren Hassinger, spokesman for the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

No other injuries were reported, Hassinger said.

The festival is named for the popular national public television show Austin City Limits, which has been airing since 1975. The program originally focused on Austin and the city's music, and the festival built upon those themes. It features a wide array of American musical genres — everything from rock and country to blues and gospel.

Oh. My. God. I just got back from a three-day eargasm.

Muse was mind blowing. It was one of those moments that you want to just freeze in time and never want to end. Matthew Bellamy's guitar shredding was unbelievable!!

Regina Spektor was absolutely endearing. I love her even more now! Her show was almost like she was just playing in her bedroom because of all the silly things she did. She's just a beautiful artist and was very genuine.

The Killers were better than I thought. Their show sounded pretty close to their album. But still rockin!

Bob Dylan - pretty much what you can expect from Dylan...a lot of mumble jumble but it's Dylan so it was crazy fun!

Joss Stone was pretty kick ***. Her backup singers were incredible!

M.I.A. had me jumpin. Great sound. She looks like Eva Mendes too.

Common, Kaiser Cheifs, LCD Soundsystem, Ben Kweller, Queens of the Stone Age, Lucinda Williams, Blue October, Paolo Nutini....also pretty good.

The Decemberists and Wilco...couldn't really get into them. Oh well.

The heat and the porta potties sucked but that's why God invented ice, baby wipes, water spritzers and smuggled rolls of toilet paper.

Now I've got a total buzz kill from being back at work. Blahhh maybe I should become a roadie. :)

What was up with the sound at the AMD stage?

My favorites:
LCD Soundsystem
Dr. Dog
Heartless Bastards
Peter Bjorn and John
Rev. Horton Heat (I don't care how many times I see him, he's still great)
Yo La Tengo (you know the PA is messed up when my sister says to me "I thought they were supposed to be loud")
Robert Earl Keen
Midlake

I noticed the sound problems at AMD too. I thought Blue October could have sounded a lot better if their sound wasn't so jacked up.

Also next year they need to not put down compost that's mixed with manure so certain areas don't reek of cow ****.

But otherwise I wanna go back now!

It was much cooler this year than the past few years, it was in the 102-105 range then and mid 90's this past weekend.

How was the grass at Zilker? The dust from the dead grass has been a big problem in the past but they said they had made plans to take care of it for this year. That and almost double the yearly rainfall so far probably helped.

If you like the more independent acts you should come down for SXSW (http://www.sxsw.com/) next March.

M
9/19/2007, 02:26 PM
The dust wasn't an issue this year. There was a lot of mulch in certain areas, so I think that helped.

I would love to go back for SXSW! It is totally different from ACL but very cool in its own way. When do they announce the lineup for next year?
