This one always amuses me. Oh, I agree that the current admin needs to step up with more actionable political thought. (Though I would add that applies to our current state of national politics overall.)

But what, pray tell, is the original thought coming out of the left?

Let me just review some "original" political thought from the last 30 years:

balanced budget
tort reform
term limits
privatization of social security
marriage act
national sales tax
flat tax
abortion amendment
Middle East democratization
trust but verify
star wars

Now we might agree that some of these are bad ideas. And we most certainly would agree that some that have been attempted have been executed poorly.

But we all know what side of the aisle they came from. And I am trying my best to come up with a similar list from the other side. Here it is:

I understand we have a war to run. I understand it takes billions to do it. I understand you can't make everybody happy regarding the various combinations of tax revenue streams and omnibus requirements....but balance the freaking budget. (Though Dems in Congress get a huge tip of the hat here, too. GW didn't call for all the expenditures being made, himself.) And it is embarrassing because Republicans were the ones for years screaming to balance the budget.

Well, RLIMC, there is something I have to re-learn here over and over and over. You are never going to convince someone that your political point-of-view is correct. It doesn't matter what facts, history, or stats you show, the other person will reply with their own. There are a few people here (like me I admit) who sometimes just argue for the sake of arguing, and that's it. If the country is going into a left-leaning tilt, and socialism is the immenent future, then trust me, there is nothing you or me or anyone here who cares can do anything about it. It's going to happen. 1/4 of the American public believes that Bush planned 9-11. What can you do about that kind of insanity? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Clinton said Iraq had WMD. Do they care? H*ll no they don't care. I have studied enough history to know what's coming. Enough people have figured out that they can turn over much of the responsibility for their own lives to the government, and once that reaches a certain threshold, it's like a dam breaking. The whole system will collapse. Thing is, you just need to be sure that you and your family can survive it.

The French people may have just figured it out but it may be too late for them.
