Does anyone have video clips or an idea where to look for clips of Marcus Dupree?
My son tells me that his buddy "Marcus" is named after Marcus Dupree.
They would like to see just how good he was.

Thanks

Good luck. I hope you find some. I was fortunate enough to see him play in person, and he was a physical phenom. He was 6' 3" and 230 pounds, and also the fastest man on the field. It's too bad he didn't have the work ethic and discipline of AD. He'd have probably won two Heismans if he did.

It will difficult to find more than a series or two of Marcus - any contact usually meant he was out for the rest of the game.
Great potential, horrible to see him waste his opportunity.

I agree.

Neither Marcus nor AD able to perform to their potential. AD, because of injuries, didn't get the Heisman that he truly deserved. Marcus, because of his lack of discipline, didn't get the Heisman that he potentially could have had.

I know what AD is doing these days because of his discipline regimen but I have no idea of whatever happened to Marcus because of the lack thereof.

Marcus, at least a year ago, was working with the Security department at the Mississippi Choctaw Casino and Resort complex in Philadelpia, MS.

Marcus Dupree Signed a 5 millon dollar deal to play in the USFL top pick- he blew his knee out bad and back then it ain't easy to come back from an injury like that because they actualy carved you up with a 2 foot scar - today they can scope it and do crazy stuff with cadavers and different muscles as tendons.

Marcus I believe now runs a business actually - and is doing well.

I'm a huge BS fan, but as a football purist if you watch these clips you have to marvel at the O-line domination, on many of these runs Sims has a broken-field opportunity right at the line of scrimmage. The media fails to recognize that most Heisman winners have a superior line working in their favor, Switzer alway praised a dominant O-line...

Ya, I have seen that Lil Joe stuff before, I actually think he evaded (not broke...evaded) 15 different potential tackles on the USC return.
Football purist or not, I saw more that one clip of Billy breaking 4 and 5 tackles...hitting people head on...and all of that good stuff. No doubt he had a good line, but he was one bad man.

No doubt. All together that was one bad-a** offense. Also, watch the vid again and check some of the fullback blocks, they're devistating, was that Kenny King?

It's a SAD statement when a great recruit/player like Marcus Dupree plays for the great university of oklahoma and receives such great alumni support in the state he played for that the poor dude has to scramble for a job in a freaking Mizzou Indian casino!

Way to go, great Almuni of OU for taking care of your own~!

As pointed out by others it is in Mississippi - where Philadelphia, the hometown of Marcus is located. You obviously know very little about Indian casinos either. An upper level position with a security department in a large casino (which the Mississippi Choctaws have) is a pretty nice paycheck. Indian Casinos are not all convenience store conversions. Indian Gaming in the U.S. generates more gross revenue that Vegas and Atlantic City combined. The largest casino in the world - IN THE WORLD - is an Indian Casino in Connecticut. Dupree does not need to be subsidized by his former teammates. He is doing quite well thank you.

Marcus Dupree pretty well symbolizes all that was wrong with the last few years under Switzer.

In the 1970s, Switzer was blessed with players like Steve Davis, the Selmons and J C Watts who were great players and great leaders for the other players. Barry didn't need to be a disciplinarian; in fact, he actively worked to keep everything loose and encouraged the players to do likewise. Great example is Uwe von Schamann chanting "Block that kick" along with the crowd in Columbus. They didn't, of course; he nailed it and the Sooners won the game, but that looseness and supreme confidence were a major part of Sooner Magic back then.

A little further down the line, things changed, and that reputation started attracting the kids who didn't want (but desperately needed) to play for a no-nonsense tough-discipline style coach. Marcus Dupree, Charles Thompson (CT according to my MIL in Lawton stood for car thief), Buster Rhymes with guns in the athletic dorms.

Don't get me wrong. Switzer was a great college coach, probably the best recruiter ever, and the program was great under his leadership for a long time. But his style worked well with good kids, and he either didn't recognize the need to change styles, or couldn't when he didn't have the kind of players that could keep the other players in line.

That was an awesome video. But that Orange Bowl clip from the '86 season against Arkincest reminded me of how much I hated NBC, Don Criqui, Bob Trumpy and Dickhead Enberg.

I still despise these cretins for the bitter, unflattering way they always spoke of OU.

I remember people saying that PT could of been an option QB. If you watch Charles Thompson in that clip you would realize how fast our QBs were back then. He left EVERYONE in the dust on that one run. PT never had that kind of speed.

Heck, look at what happened at Neb. toward the end of Tom's reign, Miami, Colorado, Baylor, FSU, Alabama, etc...

Just saying, Switzer was sort of a victim of modern day athletics. He just went through it first.
