I just watched the youtube 2000 OU video again for the 1,000th time. Makes me remember the talent Q, Josh, Works, Thatcher, Roy, Rocky, Torrence, Woolfolk, Savage.

That talent pool played hard every down. I think we all forget how good Q was. He was so elusive. I hope OUr current talent will have the hunger to impose their will like that 2000 bunch.

I'm ready for football season. Boomer!

It's that hidden talent that I miss so much. I hope Stoops and the crew can pull this again.

That team had guys that played their roles right. That's something we've lacked at times the last few years.

I would list OU players to two group - good players and great players. OUr defense last year in Fiesta bowl was a group of good players. They played systematically according to the play book correct position in every way. OUr defense in 2001+2002 was a group of great players. They not only played systematically in correct position, they also reacted and predicted what the opponent planned to do.

Same definition for good coach and great coach - that is what I think.

The 2000 OU defense was, perhaps, the greatest defense ever. That's not hyperbole either. Look at the stats and look at the teams we played against that year. Unfreaking believable!

I think that team was also the first team to ever beat the #1 and #2 ranked team in consecutive weeks.

I still say 2000 OU beats most other national champions since.

I liked an article from around Jan 10, 2001 that said, basically, even if the game were still going on, the Florida State offense would still not have scored.

Its just like in 1985 when OU won the NC against Penn State. I remember seeing that game on TV. I was a freshman at OU at that time. I have that game on DVD and was watching it the other day thinking, wow, OUr defense was unbelievable! Penn State was no slouch, but we had Joe Paterno and his offense so frustrated! Seeing Joe Paterno so upset on the side lines was priceless!

We've had a multiude of really good players in Stoop's tenure with the Sooners. It's got to be very difficult to pick whose going to be good and who's going to be great. That 2000 defense was almost perfect. A quick group that would absolutely tear your head off if you tried to run the ball. If you tried to throw....and managed to get the pass off, the WR risked a few broken ribs if he went after the ball. Those guys were so fundamentally sound....then you had Marshall who wasn't but he was one of the headhunters. They were fun to watch! God I'm glad to be a Sooner Fan!

That FSU fumble in the Orange Bowl was the start of the fall of their reign of dominance.

What a great year. Beating TX, KSU (twice), Nebraska and FSU.. and a bunch of hard working, selfless guys who played beyond themselves week in and week out. That team definately set the bar for the future.

I remember the look of fire their eyes at the coin toss. Thats what wins national championships. Something we have to get back.

Also, we had the same starting lineup for every game.

That's luck right there!

That 2000 team was all HEART they refused to lose and every game they gave their all...they didn't have all the talent in the world and i honestly think the teams the last 4 or 5 years were more talented and this years too...we are just lacking that instinct that this 2000 team had and we don't play as hardnosed as we use to

How we avoided having many major injuries that year boggles the mind....

It's what got us through IMO...

Josh was pretty beat up going into the game in stoolwater...

Then to have enough for K-State again and then the Seminoles...

That team was amazing...

I've said it before but 2000 OU should be considered one of the greatest teams in CF history.

I doubt many teams have won a NC with a schedule as hard as ours was.

... NTM they were only one season separated from a decade of GundyBall. Did we mention we won it all with the toughest schedule, one season separated from mediocirty with a JUCO QB, as well?

While this is factual, I wonder if it is true. Heupel hurt his elbow at some point in that season. Look at the throws he threw against Texas versus what he tried to throw against OSU. If Heupel hadn't been injured, some of those close games would have been blowouts. The difference would be that now we wouldn't be arguing about where this team ranks, we would be saying they were the best ever, bar none.

I can't think of a more exciting team and season of college football than the 2000 Sooners. Whipped Texas, survived a schedule from hell itself and won a NC.

What more could any Sooner fan ask for ?

Not as much as a lot of folks think. I've seen 4-5 interviews in which Josh himself said that he audibled around 20% of the time max that year.
