Do you wear your seat belts? I do at all times, and I'm to the point where I do it out of muscle memory. To me wearing a seatbelt just seems like the smart thing to do, but I know many people feel differently.

Heh, my parents beat this into me young. I don't even think about it anymore.

Same goes for locking doors.

When I was a kid, nobody wore their seatbelts......occasionally there would be an oddball that put theirs on but nobody I knew wore one that I can remember. When the law was passed is when I began wearing one and now I always do. The older generation, I believe, is probably the only group that doesn't wear it. Oh, and the hillbillies.

Agreed.

It is always better to wear your seatbelt and studies show that it greatly reduces the risk of injury during an accident, but I have know of many cases where the person or people not wearing the seatbelt was unharmed or survived and wouldn't have if they were wearing it.

At this point...

I'm sold on the idea of wearing my seat belt and have made it a habit to latch the belt before taking my vehicle out of park.

Since I do have a brain...is it illegal to unhook that warning bell that goes off when my Wife doesn't snap hers? It would really help my stress levels when riding with her. :D

Very true.

My Brother got sammiched in his honda civic some years ago and they basically cut the back of the car off and replaced it and fixed the front bumper.

I would imagine they only total them now if they have to use the jaws of life on the vehicle to cut you out.

I remember when Barbara Mandrell had her car accident that almost killed her and her kids. In the aftermath, she had said that she had just put on her seatbelt and made her kids put theirs on too. It happened sometime in the early 80's and I was somewhere between 8-10 years old. No one in my family ever wore their seatbelts. It stuck with me and have worn my seatbelt ever since.

shoot, we used to ride up in the back window area of the car. Its these "safer" aluminum cans we call cars these days that have made seat belts a necessity.
However, there are no seat belts on my motorcycle

I always do. One time I unhooked my seat belt while I was stopped at the traffic light because my puppy's leash got caught on a lever. A policeman, who was parked at the ATM spying on people, gave me a ticket for it. I saw him sitting over there, but my dog was having a mini panic attack. I made the assumption that he was bright enough to realize that nobody would just take their seatbelt off in front of a policeman unless they had a reason, and after all, he did see me bend down. I even told him what happened, but he didn't care. He just said that I should have waited and pulled over, but it just so happens that that traffic light takes forever to change to the turning arrow.

He had a big jacket over his name plate and badge and his writing was illegible, so I went to the police station to pay my ticket, to find out his name and to make a formal complaint about the little puppy hating punk. They agreed and told me I should fight it but there was no way I could take off from work all afternoon on the 1st day of the month to fight a $50.00 ticket. Thats when I make payroll.

For a month or so he followed me all over town just waiting for me to break the law. He was obsessed with me. Well, one evening after watching Its a Wonderful Life, my niece and I decided to take the dogs for a drive through Chrystal Beach and get ourselves a nutty buddy at Loves. My dog Watson has his own 3-D glasses and loves hanging out the window and looking at the Christmas light display. They were just getting ready to close but let us in anyway. The west gate at the end of the display is in the middle of No Mans Land. The lights off so just as we approached that gate. It was real dark. Off in the distance we saw two elderly people wandering around. We rescued them. They were freezing. They had decided to walk through Crystal Beach so and take a buggy ride but ended up at the wrong gate when they left to find their car. Their car was at the church parking lot way on the other side. When his father was in my car, guess who didn't put on his seat belt? So I said..."You need to put your seat belt on sir. This punk gave me a ticket when my puppy was choking and hes been following me around since I complained. They asked what his name was, explaining that they have a son on the force. I told them his name and lo and behold if it wasn't his parents. Well, his mother said she would get onto him and make him leave me alone. She gave me her phone number and told me to call her if he followed me one more time. Now he just pretends like he doesn't even see me. I am invisible to him. :P

I like the "I would have died if I was wearing a seat belt" thing.

If I ever meet someone that survived BECAUSE they had no seatbelt on, I will immediately escort them to purchase lottery tickets.

Fire scenarios are the only scary about a seat belt.

There's a reason doctors refer to motorcycle riders as "organ donors".

As a safety professional, If I were guru for the day:

Safety Belt Mandated - yes
Motorcycle Helmet Mandated - yes
Forbidding cell phone use while driving - yes

All of these saves lives and two can reduce the severity of accidents. If an indivdual posted a insurance bond of a million dollars or so to cover medical costs incurred if you weren't wearing either of the first two, then I would say you can have the right to opt out.

The last reduces distraction and the chance of a traffic incident. Research has shown and proven that people talking on cell phone and driving are impaired and reaction time and reasoning are significantly reduced when speaking on a cell phone (any type) than when not. Some researchers have even made the example that it is equivalent to a BAC level over 0.08.

Where can I get a pair of 3D glasses for my dog?
My little nephew bought Doggles Goggles for dogs and fit a 3-D lens in them. Watson loves it. He gets real happy when they put his glasses on for him at the light display. If I understand the law correctly (and I could be wrong) you can be pulled over on the suspicion that you are not wearing your seat belt. Following being pulled over, even if you are wearing your seatbelt at that time, you can be searched (or refuse search thereby creating probable cause and get searched anyway). I am not saying it is the norm, but I am saying it is a possibility. Sorry I guess I forgot my tin foil hat :O

Your comprehension skills are seriously lacking if you actually believe what you just said. Do you honestly not know the definitions of the words run and coast? There is a big difference.

Like I said, the fine in the state of Oklahoma range anywhere from $25.00 to $100.00. See...http://blog.laborlawtalk.com/2006/10/27/oklahoma-seatbelt-ticket-laws/

Unlike the way you have been behaving, I am a reasonable person and always give someone the benefit of the doubt, and therefore would guess that you got your seatbelt fine when it was $20.00. You have no clue when I got fined for the seatbelt violation. I have most likely been driving for longer than your snot nosed little *** has been on this earth and in this particular season of my life, like I said...I never get a ticket. I did not say, 'I have never gotten a ticket in my entire life'. I said "I never get a ticket"...and thats what I meant.
