View Full Version : What Do You Want On Your Tombstone?

When my dad died, a stone was purchased for him that included a spot for my mom. My grandma did it I'm pretty sure. She probably also told them how to spell my mom's name......which was wrong.

I called a while back and asked them to correct this and told them I'd be happy to pay for it because it was likely my grandmother's fault. So they call today and said they have the stone in their shop now but if they make the correction to my mom's name, it will be so close to her middle name that it will just look like one long name.

So I asked the lady to ask the guys that are doing the repairs what they suggest we do.

Her response? "They said they suggest you just leave it like it is".

I said that sounds like the worst possible solution. If it has to be re-done all together then so be it, but yeah, that needs to be spelled right.

WTF? That's not too much to ask is it?

First, I want to say my condolences there Pat and good grief no, it is not too much to ask to spell a name right on a tombstone!

You guys have given me so many wonderful ideas on tombstone captions that I'm having trouble deciding.

I think I'll go with: "Stick it! Stick it real gooood!"

Can they just fill her name in with white out that's made for tombstones?

Is your mom still living? What does she have to say about this?

I guess they just fill it in with marble (or whatever) of the same color and re-engrave (or whatever) it.

Yes. She thought it was funny that it was mis-spelled, I probably won't tell her their suggestion. :)

With all the smart-*** responses, you'd think you were answering yourself, mjcpr. :)
Tell them just to fix the damn thing. It's not like they put pickles on a burger by accident. It's sort of the ever-lasting monument to your parents. It should be spelled right.

Sorry about the spek comment, I was cutoff in mid-spek. :D

But yeah, I told them to fix it. I was just kind of shocked that their suggestion to fix the problem was to leave it the way it was. Tards.
