View Full Version : Sooner Free Agents?

Usually, after the draft, several non-drafted players sign free agent contracts. Do we know if any Sooners did so?

Birdine or Latimer perhaps?

I think you ll start hearing about these guys starting today and over the next 3 or 4 days..The teams probably have already contacted them

I was on the Baylor site where they had Sepulveda drafted by the Steelers and Wilson drafted by the Panthers. But immediately after the draft, Mosely signed with the Steelers, Arline signed with the Chargers, and Shelton signed with the Colts.

I was wondering if any Sooners signed free agent contracts immediately after the draft.

My husband said he heard that Paul Thompson might be trying out with the Saints. No cite, so take it FWIW.

And at least three Sooners were in position to join teams as free agents Sunday.

Quarterback Paul Thompson was in contact with a handful of teams, but settled on an offer from the New York Jets, who have Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens and Marques Tuiasosopo already on the roster.

Linebacker Zach Latimer received offers from both Washington and Seattle, while defensive end Larry Birdine was said to be contemplating offers from the Jets and Green Bay.

He had a bad year and even worse workout numbers. Questions concerning his dedication. No big surprise he wasn't drafted.

The only listing of undrafted free agents I've been able to find is this one (http://www.draftdaddy.com/).

There's no mention of any Sooners yet. Others of interest to some are:

Zac Taylor, QB, Nebbish - Tampa Bay
Chris Leak, QB, Florida - Chicago
Paul Mosely, RB, Baylor - Pittsburgh
Jared Zabransky, QB, BSU - Houston

The site shows "Service Not Available" a lot, but if you keep trying it will show up after only a few tries.

I'll be happy if the Jets take PT and Bird. They need to make it back to us after the way the treated DS.

Draftdaddy is still the best list I've been able to locate. There are a couple other lists around but none of them appear to be as complete. On the other hand, I have no idea how credible the draftdaddy site is, so I'm taking their list with a grain of salt.

It's yesterday's news for us, but nice to see at least one source confirming the DOK article... couldn't be happier for ENA! BOOMER!

Also the drafdaddy.com site problems appear to have been resolved so the updated UDFA list is more readily available.

I really and truly think that PT is a darkhorse candidate to be a decent NFL QB if he's honed into one with the scouts for a few years.

The guy for all his time on ST, at WR, at QB and even when he ran the ball dangerously, never hurt himself. He has a dominating presence to him, if you've ever met him face-to-face, real big and strong. He has tremendous arm strength, and is a patient, team-oriented guy. He is also coachable, which you don't find in guys like Vick, McNabb, etc. He communicates well... the list goes on with potential. People scoff when it is mentioned, but I really do think he can do it.

He was running a NFL-style offense at OU in 2006, and had many years worth of NFL-quality talent to utilize and learn from. Give him some years with a scout team to develop the terminology, speed, accuracy and awareness... and he's certainly worth throwing in the game in a situation like Tony Romo was first thrown in. And look how he turned out. He was the difference between Dallas losign every last game that season and at least a playoff berth. While people rip him, they know with his skill-- he'll progress and get better.

When I look at PT, having met him and watched him, I see a guy who is the NFL stereotypical athlete. If you look at him face-to-face and someone tells you he's an NFL QB... you don't scoff and say "yeah, right..." He physically looks the part because of his build and size. I'll bet if he stayed in the game and played out the 2005 season, going 9-3 on a rebuilding year like Rhomar did, then doing just what he did in 2006... NFL teams and fans would look at him differently.

I don't know that I'll throw money in on him being All-Pro or even Pro-Bowl, but can he do the job??? Certainly better than some guys I saw last year.

Best news of the entire draft. If anyone deserves a chance, it's him.

Sadly, this means I probably won't be running into him at Logan's on Campus Corner anymore (for like six consecutive weeks, he was there). :( I was starting to feel special.
